You Shakira stans are beyond insecure and pathetic. Creating new accounts just to translate your fave's article into languages you have zero knowledge on. I have informed an admin about this. Desperate doesn't begin to cover it. Find something to do with your time.

Many popular artists have not reached the top 60. Like Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Phil Collins, Beach Boys, Sting...

For once, I have to agree with Mikko. It is obvious that artists who are better known among younger internet users are listed higher than artists who were relevant 30, 40, 50 years ago or more. What does that tell us if, for example, Juice WRLD is ranked higher than Louis Armstrong, who undoubtedly made essential contributions to jazz and music in general, but is perhaps not so popular with TikTok teenagers?

I have no objection to the process of creating such a list. However, I personally think such ranking is irrelevant in the long run.

That just shows older artists can be popular, but maybe less global. They peaked in a less globalized world after all

The top 20 is mostly legacy artists, not ones that peaked during the streaming era.

Hi Brian!

I think you are really underating Enya. She has multiple million selling albums in Japan, sold tons all over Asia, same in Latin America with half a million sellers in Brazil and smash records in all Spanish markets. New age as a whole is very global.

About Vysotksy, the thing IS that as western people we tend to see Russia as one area and that's it. He is from the USSR era, that embedded dozens of countries from now and way more ethnies, plus USSR had a strong influence in nearby countries like Poland, Austria, Czechoslovaquia, Yugoslavia, etc, but also countries in the Asian side like Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, etc.

This is a super big region, representing like 60-80 languages, and Vysotksy was the number one artist there. Add to that his niche success among intellectuals from western countries, similar to Edith Piaf, and his results here already feel way more logical.

In the other side, even if they sold well in many developped markets, Brit stars as the ones you list often had a much weaker impact on more exotic cultures. As a French myself I can't expect many people speaking regional languages of Bretagne, Corse, Pays Basque or Catalogne Care all that much about Maroon 5, Coldplay or Bruno Mars. These artists sell much better in big cities, heavily influenced by the Anglo World.

This is special. I'm still shocking because I still see the word Nirvana. I'm still interested in France sales.

Beyoncé is a „relatively successful hitmaker“? She was Billboard‘s biggest female artist of the 00s, together with DC I‘m sure she‘d even overtake Eminem. She topped charts in Europe, had gigantic digital sales in Asia and garnered substantial sales in South America. She shaped the 00s like no other musician.

As soon as I saw the title of the article, I knew Michael Jackson would be number 1. But who else would be? And he did it WITHOUT the internet and social media! Greatest Of All Time.

No. Beyonce was officially the RIAA's top certified artist of the 2000s (male or female)
Beyonce Tops Decade's RIAA Sales (billboard.com)

And she was also Billboard's top female seller during the 2000s
Artists of the Decade (billboard.com)

Certainly in the US, Beyonce was bigger than Britney during the 2000s in terms of sales
