This first ranking features a comprehensive list of the most streamed songs on Spotify, covering every track with over 500 million streams. Updated daily, it highlights the top-performing tracks by stream count. If you spot a song missing from the list, feel free to leave a comment for inclusion.

Timeline of Spotify’s all-time most streamed songs

Since Spotify launched, only nine songs have held the title of most streamed track globally. The list began with Coldplay’s Viva La Vida. Longest reigns include Human by The Killers and Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, each dominating for over 1,000 days.

When this page launched, surpassing 500 million streams was rare. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran was the first to achieve it on October 11, 2015. One year later, One Dance became Spotify’s first track to hit 1 billion streams.

Shape of You later became the first to cross both 2 billion (Dec 10, 2018) and 3 billion (Dec 22, 2021). Blinding Lights broke past 4 billion on Jan 12, 2024, and is expected to reach 5 billion in 2025. With over 2,500 tracks now above 500 million, this milestone is more common, and competition to stay in the top 1,000 is fierce.

Spotify streaming records and top performances

Fortnight by Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone holds the record for the highest one-day stream total: 25,204,472 filtered streams on April 19, 2024. For non-debuts, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You leads with 24,863,570, and Miley Cyrus’ Flowers holds the non-holiday record at 18,424,325.

Flowers and Fortnight are also the only songs to cross 100 million streams in a single week, with 115,156,896 and 102,878,399 streams respectively.

On the longevity front, Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars stayed at #1 on Spotify's global daily chart for 193 days. The track also led the weekly chart for 27 non-consecutive weeks. Rockstar by Post Malone ft. 21 Savage led the weekly chart for 17 weeks straight, the most for consecutive weeks.

That’s why we created this list, which combines the stream counts of all versions of the same song.

This combined list presents a picture that’s both different and more accurate than the standard rankings we're used to seeing. Prime examples are blockbuster hits Save Your Tears, Die For You, and Despacito, which have two massive separate versions—each with over a billion streams—placing them much higher when combined.
