Official Global Top Sellers of 2004 – with Sales

#10 Maroon 5 – Songs About Jane 4,900,000

Issued in June 2002, it took a lot of effort for Maroon 5 to ultimately cross over to the general public. The album Songs About Jane debuted at #170 in May 2003 in the US, nearly a year after its release. It entered and climbed up to #47 thanks to the good hit Harder to Breathe which peaked at #14. This opened the door of the UK where the same single was issued in January 2004.

Several more months passed and in April 2004 the song This Love made it to the Top 10 in the US, cementing their new fame. This #5 smash was soon succeeded by another #5 hit, She Will Be Loved. They were both Top 5 hits in the UK too and also succeeded in various more markets. At last the album was selling well. Ultimately, it peaked at #1 in the UK in September 2004, some 27 months after its release, and at #6 in the US at the same time.

It resulted into 4,9 million additional shipments in 2004 on top of the few numbers achieved in 2003. The album remained hot in 2005 closing the year as the 41st best seller with slightly over 2 million units sold.
