CSPC: Beyonce Popularity Analysis

CSPC Beyonce

Rated recently as the most powerful women in the industry a few months ago by Fortune magazine, Beyonce has been growing a lot since the days of No, No, No hit single way back in 1998 with the Destiny’s Child. Most powerful doesn’t necessarily mean best selling artist though so how the diva stands in comparison to her peers in that field?

It all started in a very standard way with a string of successful eras with her group from 1998 to 2001. During that period, she met and started to date Jay-Z that she married in 2008. Retrospectively, this meeting can be regarded as a tremendous event for the music industry as a whole. The relationship obviously brought several key hits to Beyonce but the pair’s combined strengths also enabled them to invest in various brands from the Brooklyn Nets to TIDAL, developing more and more their status as business powerhouses.

Among the very top selling albums of the last 20 years though, it is all about Adele, Eminem or Britney Spears with no records from the Destiny’s Child, Beyonce or Jay-Z. Does that mean the couple is primarily successful as business associates rather than recording artists? Well, maybe that’s going too far.

As usual, I’ll be using the Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept in order to relevantly gauge her results. This concept will not only bring you sales information for all Beyonce‘s albums, physical and download singles, as well as audio and video streaming, but it will also determine their true popularity. If you are not yet familiar with the CSPC method, the next page explains it with a short video. I fully recommend watching the video before getting into the sales figures. Of course, if you are a regular visitor feel free to skip the video and get into the figures.

Dangerously In Love, despite not SMAHSING the world with sales, did pretty impressive numbers in all markets (Asia, Europe, Oceania, Latin America, Africa, and North America)

B’day achieved 1 billion streams. Three more projects since Lemonade. Some new collabs. It’s time to update this PLEAAAAASE

I‘m sure they‘re waiting for her next major project of her 40th birthday later this year.

Would Homecoming be counted as equivalent streaming points for the original albums the tracks were featured on? It’s basically a greatest hits album.

Beyoncé has one of the most enduring careers ever. 23 years long career, reaching her pop culture peak AFTER her commercial peak, who else did that? And I‘m sure the 2020s will be massive as well for her.

Bey’s pure sales have been the same since Jan 2017, that’s 4 years😩 pls update her CSPC ASAP thx 🙂

Hey MJD! When will you be doing another analysis or updating Bey’s pure sales on the banner. Has IASF already crossed 20M CSPC? I’m curious to know how much Lemonade has sold thus far aswell after the streaming release. Hope to hear from you 🙂

Firstly, thank you so much for all the time and effort all the staff put into these articles. Really informative! I am hoping we could get an update for Beyonce soon! Since this article, she has released 2 projects (HOMECOMING & TG) and 1 collab album (EIL, not sure if you will count it towards her total). The latter two underperformed, but the first former has strong streaming numbers for a live album, and should boost her catalog. Not to mention Lemonade getting a wide streaming release, and Halo remaining consistently the most streamed female 00s song. IASF must be… Read more »

Can you please update her figures? It’s been over 2 years.

“Beyonce is the only solo female artist from the last 20 years with 3 albums as high as B’Day in equivalent album sales.“
What about Adele?

19 hasn’t sold as much as B’Day. Definitely not at the time the article was written.

Britney Spears sure does, since this was written in 2018 and Britney premiered in 1998.
