CSPC: Christina Aguilera Popularity Analysis

Christina-Aguilera_02

While watching a group of teenagers on the Mickey Mouse Club way back in 1993, nobody would have guessed that four of them, Justin TimberlakeBritney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling, would be superstars two decades later. It just happened. Following the foot steps of the former which got big along with N’Sync boys band, the two blonde girls both arrived in the Pop Music scene in 1998 / 1999 with a huge #1 hit, instantly drawing attention and creating the perfect rivalry story for gossip magazines.

If recent struggles of both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera moved away public eyes on other new popular singers a la Taylor Swift or Adele, the battle was fierce for several years between both artists and even stronger within’ their respective fan bases. One has more US #1 albums, the other has more #1 singles. The latter has the biggest UK album, yet the first has the biggest global seller. With valid arguments both sides, it becomes hard to accurately define which one was the biggest. The only thing which remained safe up to now is that from their debut to 2004 they both recorded an impressive string of hits.

Now, we will fully clarify the situation setting Christina Aguilera overall popularity from her self-titled debut until her last effort Lotus.

As usual, I’ll be using the Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept in order to relevantly gauge the diva results. The concept will not only bring you raw data of all Christina Aguilera albums, physical singles, download singles, music videos and streaming, it will also accurately weight all this information to conclude on meaningful popularity indicators. If you are not yet familiar with the CSPC idea, the next page explains it with a short video, I fully recommend you to check it before getting into sales figures. Of course, if you are a regular visitor feel free to jump to the following pages. Let’s go!

You need to update this, please! At the end of the day, Christina’s career is the career any artist would want: having almost complete artistic control while signed onto a mainstream record label. Although this approach does not always favor sales, she could have retired after Back to Basics and been set for life and generations after, so I don’t understand her detractors. There were only two things that could’ve prevented her sudden decline in sales and popularity: either release Bionic earlier or continue building on the image that she created with Back to Basics. Bionic alienated old fans and… Read more »

What is it with people coming on here and telling the site and it’s contributors that it/they, need to update their favourite artist! It pisses me off, the amount of people whose sole contribution is, indignantly stating that their favourite artist needs to updated and then reeling of some cringeworthy and biased reasons why! I also find it startling that so many fans of female solo acts seem to be marketing and management geniuses, who know exactly how their favourite artists career should have been promoted, marketed and managed! It’s never the case that the public have just gone off… Read more »

The site does make money out of constant advertisements being thrown in peoples faces and it has been 5 years since she had an update . . . you also charge for the spotify tool . . .

cassandra

please, who liberation?

Rene

This need to be refresh!

Kris

Hey I have a question about her current streaming numbers. I used the spotify search tool and her current total is 4.92B streams, with features accounting for 1.37B of it. However on the “Most streamed artists ever on Spotify” list you have, her features are listed as 2.06B, and her total streams is 5.8B. Which is correct?

Also, the 90M version of “Say Something” appears on her search although she does not sing on that version so I believe that’s an error.

Putting Mi Reflejo songs on an “orphan” album makes no sense at all. Mi Reflejo is Christina’s second studio album. If you want to separate the Spanish versions of the songs from her debut album, ok. But there are original songs on Mi Reflejo, which deserve to be treated like the other songs on any standard album, not as an “orphan” album because they’re not. Mi Reflejo exists, is a studio album, and deserves to be treated equally as the other standard albums.

4 year old information . . . what a joke!!!!!

Martin

Let’s face it, she’s hardly an artist that is going to be prioritised for an update, given how relatively little she will have added in those 4 years. Her last album didn’t exactly set the world on fire and her streaming numbers, while not exactly terrible are from amazing either.

michael1814

Her Streaming numbers are quite similar to Britney’s total, she had an update 3 years after her last album in 2019. Chartmasters have ads and are now charging for the spotify tool, they are making money, surely as a business you would have up to date (ish) data what is the point in having 4 year old data??? it’s ridiculous and this isn’t just for Christina.

L145

the only reason Britney was updated is because she reached the 100m milestone, something Christina will never reach

Jazz

We need to be realistic here. This is a small business not a billion dollar organisations. They are not billboard or nielsen soundscan that have hundreds of if not thousands of employees that can update sales regularly, even Soundscan hasnt updated/published many of Aguilera’s sales for decades. I dont know if u r a paying customer or not. But if u r, u can always stop making payment and find other services that satisfy your needs.

Gabriel

tell the truth!
Britney and Xtina are far apart on spotify
from january to august 2021 Britney made 1 billion streams on spotify, Aguilera made 610kk with the help of powerful ft and considering that Britney hasn’t released anything in 5 years!

carlos

please give us an update

Xtina

Why did you only count streams from Spotify and not from YT? Xtina has 5.3g views from YT and almost 3.9g streams from Spotify. Counting all songs (solo, ft. collabs) from all official accounts

The need to draw comparisons to Britney Spears is ridiculous and uncalled for. I like both and I don’t mind comparisons per se but the way you worded your language with an unnecessarily condescending tone throughout the whole article implies you’re biased which is an absolute no-go when collecting data like this. If you’re comparing something do it fully and fairly or don’t do it at all because when you’re talking about “fairly different leagues” : 1.) You’re not taking into account that Christina did not release album after album at the peak of her hype like Britney’s label smartly… Read more »

I understand what you mean but I dont think the author is biased bc of that. The facts are reliable….it’s just that some of his expressions and the way he built this article with the “who’s the winner” concept are a bit unprofessional and annoying. This isn’t stan twitter or a tabloid magazine. Why create a one on one fight? I wish they would just stay transparent without irrational comparisons because like you explained Xtina’s condition and music was compeletly different after stripped and a lot less commercial. Still that doesnt mean the author is taking sides….more like he’s feeding… Read more »

Ur talking non sense. This site is all about sales, sales & sales. Christina probably would have sold a lot more albums at her peak if she realeased more albums but she chose not to & because of that her sales are in a lower league than Britney or whoever else that was the top singers of that time. Christina chose Critical Acclaim over sales, Britney chose the opposite. On a site that talks about sales, Christina isnt in her league, on a site that is focused on Critical Acclaim you can talk all day long and point out how… Read more »

I dont think there’s anything aggressive about my comments. I did not used one offensive word in my comment. And I dont think its tedious when someone tried to indicate an artist as a puppet. If u want to argue, then laid down all ur facts, no need to throw dirt to other artist like that. Thats rude. Also like what would people expect when they throw dirt to other artist. He/she should be expecting some retaliation. I also hate this notion that Britney is a puppet. Jive is known to be really strict and they are not really encouraging… Read more »

It’s no use, if xtina released more albums, she would saturate even more and maybe arrive in 2006 selling even less, Britney had a magnetism, charisma and powerful clips and hits that made her last for a long 15 years, her argument is not valid.

Rudy S

Hello, you forgot to include “Mi Reflejo” ( her Spanish album) she went 6 times platinum only on the Hispanic market in the USA, the album was a major hit in Latin America and Spain. She also sang with Pitbull, Andrea Bocelli and Alejandro Fernandez in Spanish ( major hit too).

AndrewMark

He included in the page 20, in the Remaining long format. It’s listed as 1.5 millipn copies sold.
