While watching a group of teenagers on the Mickey Mouse Club way back in 1993, nobody would have guessed that four of them, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling, would be superstars two decades later. It just happened. Following the foot steps of the former which got big along with N’Sync boys band, the two blonde girls both arrived in the Pop Music scene in 1998 / 1999 with a huge #1 hit, instantly drawing attention and creating the perfect rivalry story for gossip magazines.
If recent struggles of both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera moved away public eyes on other new popular singers a la Taylor Swift or Adele, the battle was fierce for several years between both artists and even stronger within’ their respective fan bases. One has more US #1 albums, the other has more #1 singles. The latter has the biggest UK album, yet the first has the biggest global seller. With valid arguments both sides, it becomes hard to accurately define which one was the biggest. The only thing which remained safe up to now is that from their debut to 2004 they both recorded an impressive string of hits.
Now, we will fully clarify the situation setting Christina Aguilera overall popularity from her self-titled debut until her last effort Lotus.
As usual, I’ll be using the Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept in order to relevantly gauge the diva results. The concept will not only bring you raw data of all Christina Aguilera albums, physical singles, download singles, music videos and streaming, it will also accurately weight all this information to conclude on meaningful popularity indicators. If you are not yet familiar with the CSPC idea, the next page explains it with a short video, I fully recommend you to check it before getting into sales figures. Of course, if you are a regular visitor feel free to jump to the following pages. Let’s go!
This hasn’t been updated in 2.5 Years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update this already please omg
Haha ya I’m curious to see how her last album did. I always wish these older acts can crack the 1 million CSCP with their new albums but I realize that isn’t the case for most 90s pop acts anymore.
Hi,MJD!

Her debut album sold 100k in Italy in 15 days.

Her debut album sold 80k in Brazil while selling 6 million in US.
Also, the album sold over 200k in SK and 100k in TW, I don’t think that the album only sold 535k in Southeast Asia…
MJD can you break down her sales in Korea? I’ve read before that her debut album was big there and it was re-released many times.
Have you taken into consideration that Back To Basics was sold as a double album price wise in the states? I bought my copy at FYE (this store no longer exists) for $23.99 which is insanely expensive for an album. Even Best Buy, Target, Walmart were selling it for over $17 during black friday & Xmas 2006 when all albums were discounted and the most expensive album was at most $9.99.
That stripped figure from the UK is from 2006. I believe Stripped crossed 2 million sales there back in 2017.
Stripped passed 2 million in the UK officially back in 2017. The figure you have for it is from 2006 i believe.
Hi Jane!
The figure listed here is up to date as of the date of the article. The OCC figure is inaccurate. This case has been treated in our article 8 Official data which are just false here.
HAHA her sales arevvery underwhelming compared to the icoInc britney spers

Stop the diss. And 50 million EAS is more than an amazing achievement.
True Michael!
At the end of the day, 50 million EAS is 50 million persons giving you $12 to listen to your work. It’s incredibly amazing. People are so used to see numbers of the very top sellers that they forget it takes an immense success to build a career from 0 to even 1 million EAS! We should always keep in mind that behind each “EAS” there is a real person liking the music of the artist 🙂
Exactly. Not really a fan of hers. But people seems to unfairly belittle her achievement all simply because shes not as successful as Britney. That is kind of dumb to me. As you have mentioned before if you compare her achievement to the likes of Moore, Simpsons, all of which were her rivals at their peak. Her achievement was definitely massive. And to be honest I dont think Jessica Simpson did that bad either. She herself managed to get multiple platinum records in the US.
When you guys update her sales?

According to Sony Music Taiwan, the album Christina Aguilera (1999) sold over 100k in Taiwan by 2002. Are you sure Baby One More Time only sold 130k there in total since BOMT released really a lot of re-issues there?
Well dhhd Sony Music certifications lists let very little room for doubt there!
BOMT was certified Platinum in Taiwan when in Japan it was awarded Platinum or earlier. She was interviewed in Japan by Taiwanese media and got a platinum plaque for BOMT in Taiwan by then in like April? There are several videos on the internet
The author of this has a noticeable bias in favor of Britney & against Christina, as can be seen by the constant mentioning of Britney on a page that is supposed to be about Christina & her sales figures. The constant comparisons between the two is questionable.
Hi Steven! There is no bias against Christina and many people here can confirm you I’m certainly no fan of Britney. Who someone listens to or not doesn’t matter as far as facts are concerned. The Christina vs Britney view is simply logical and relevant. They have been compared since the very beginning, if it wasn’t for that comparison, many wouldn’t even be remotely as interested in Christina’s sales. What’s maybe unfair to Christina is that we forgot about the remaining female pop acts from that era that she actually topped with ease. We don’t compare her with Mandy Moore,… Read more »
