Our female celebration continues with its final chapter. From 1999, a new wave of female superstars replaced the former one with the inevitable Britney Spears leading the way.
The fantastic run of Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston came to an abrupt end with this switch. This big 4 topped 12 out of 15 years from 1984 to 1998. We will see that the story has been completely different since 1999.
As a reminder, guidelines of this articles can be found on the first chapter here.
In 2003 page
“No other album reached 5 million equivalent album sales for the year, let alone 10.”
But Celine Dion’ One Heart also released in the same year
No,It didnt ,Check the article for celine.
It did, the article for celine credited 4.95million in 2016, the 50k gag can be easily covered by increasing other realse album s and streaming
Shouldn’t Goodbye Lullaby be at around 4 million? 1,7 undoubtedly pure copies + What the hell sales + recent streams. The other singles did a splash in Asia and SA also.
Hi Anna!
The album was updated quite recently through Avril’s CSPC entry and was up to 3.6 million EAS by then.
Hello can you give us an update on 2017 and 2018. I don’t think Zara Larsson or P!nk passed Taylor but Dua may have. And did Ariana pass Camila?
Hi Taylorstan!
It would require additional checks, but yes at first glance Dua is now comfortably ahead while Taylor still has the edge over Zara and P!nk. Ariana’s album is still too recent.
How much did L.A.M.B sell exactly??
Hi! Didn’t Hilary Duff’s 2003 “Metamorphosis” sold 4 million in the US alone? I think she probably reached 5 million equivalent album or more.
Yes!As of July 27, 2014, the album had sold 3,961,000 million copies in the United States and more than 6 million copies worldwide.
Hi GaryHuston!
I think you are very large with your worldwide estimates. I honestly don’t see how Metamorphosis can be at 2 million sales outside of the US, and over 3.5 million for The Sweet Escape sounds like an awful lot too!
Hi MJD! Do you think that Our Version of Events by Emeli Sandé (2012), The Pinkprint by Nicki Minaj (2014) and/or The Look Of Love by Diana Krall (2001) reached 5 million album units? I’d be interested in your opinion :). Our Version of Events has over 700 million streams and The Pinkprint has over 1.5 billion streams on Spotify. The Look Of Love has been certified 7 times Platinum in Krall’s home country Canada and Our Version of Events has even been certified 8 times Platinum in the UK. Furthermore, Only, Feeling Myself and especially Anaconda were hit singles… Read more »
Hi! Update this! I think Taylor broke the 5 million mark based on your update at her popularity analysis, thanks! I love this site!
It was confirmed that Let Go n Under My Skin sold 22M units/ 18M units (y’know who imma talkin bout) since 2002 till t’day, just read it: Seven months ago, y’all said that UMS sold ’round 9M (which are fake), but no those ones now are lower to 8M! y’all are reliable as Mediatraffic (n we know that both aren’t reliable LMAO) another example: We are know that Avril is the princess (was the goddess) of Japan right now, just behind Taylor and Gaga’s impact c’mon guys, don’t let me lie: It was confirmed by Oricon that Let Go has… Read more »
Hi Anti-accuracy! It’s always amusing to read “LMAO this isn’t reliable” from someone throwing out ridiculously delusional figures! When you try to contradict something, try at least to get your facts correct. Let’s Go sold just over a million as per Oricon, that figure of 2,6 million is pure madness. UMS did 977k, I can provide you every weekly sales if you want, TBDT did 941k. It isn’t about “us”, it is about the real official data, from official providers like Oricon. Speaking about official figures, what about checking the IFPI for global sales rather than posting these absurd 22/18m… Read more »
It’s always funny How some of you claimed these absurds sales so much higher than IFPI reports and certifications collecteds but you are unable to post the breakdowns. Please
I think Utada Hikaru’s Heart Station from 2008 should be over 5 million, it’s probably the strongest digital album ever in Japan.
The best selling female album of 2005 was Emancipation of Mimi? right?
No it was outsold by Madonna.
How? When The Emancipation was named the biggest selling album of 2005 by a female act. Most of Confessions on a Dance Floor sales came from 2006.
But COADC was released in 2005 same year as Mariah album and outsold it. Its about the release date. Whitney’s debut sold most of its copies in 1986 it was named billboards top album too in 1986 but it was released in 1985 where Madonnas LAV sold most.
I know its a bit silly since it doesn’t show who sold most when just what release was biggest selling from the year they were released.
But yeah realistically Mariahs album sold most in 2005 .
MJD referenced the year of album’s release.
Hi Stephon!
COADF shipped most of its units during the holiday season of 2005. Still, if you ask the top selling albums during 2005, then indeed that’s TEOM:
Ranking overall, Ranking among females, Artist, Album (sales)
2 1 Mariah Carey The Emancipation Of Mimi Universal (7.7 million)
6 2 Madonna Confessions on a Dancefloor (6.3 million)
7 3 Kelly Clarkson Breakaway (6.1 million)
12 4 Gwen Stefani Love.Angel.Music.Baby
15 5 Amarantine
TEOM sold 8.6m pure units. COADF sold a similar amount too.
So i can go around saying Adele has the two highest album by a female this decade and the first back to back smash hits by any artist since Eminem in the early 2000s without getting clocked?
