France Album Sales: Madonna

Something To Remember (1995) Era

Balance is often a key word. No matter if you speak about sports, about a way of life or about an artistic work, having a good balance is essential. Erotica and Bedtime Stories albums, Sex book, years 1992-4 were highly controversial for Madonna, denting her image a lot and most likely going too far for average consumers. Those two albums sold way less, both worldwide and in France, than her huge 80s releases.

Thus, to get the balance back compilation album Something To Remember, focusing on the superstar’s softer hits, was released in late 1995. It was a moderate success, peaking at #6 only in the compilation chart but fully benefited from the Christmas season to get decent sales, quickly jumping over Gold status and 2xGold in mid-1996. Afterwards the album’s success was pretty much over already.
