France Album Sales: Britney Spears
Oops!… I Did It Again (2000) Era
Yes, she did it again. In May 2000, while the previous album was still rather hot, Britney Spears came back with a sophomore effort, Oops!… I Did It Again. Overall, singles of this era performed less well than singles of the previous record, bust mostly because the artist was already bigger with sales going right from the release to the album.
The title track still peaked at a strong #4 position, with the album debuting at an impressive #1 position. Shipping 200,000 units in its first month, during its first 18 weeks the album never dropped below #21, also helped by second single, #16 song Lucky.
Collapsing in October/November period until dropping out of the Top 75, the album was retrieved to the upper region thanks to third single, Stronger. Ironically, the album peaked at #20 in 2001 first week during this single era, very exactly the same peak of the single on the same week.
With already 320,000 sold during 2000, last single Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know struggled to push Oops!… I Did It Again as well as previous singles. Still, it added 90,000 units for the year.
Taking part of a large mid-price campaign, Baby One More Time returned to charts during the summer 2001, hitting an incredible #17 position. This late boost gave this album a second Platinum disc with 600,000 units sold.
