Streaming World: Back To 2012

2012 TOP 100 HITS – #9

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop – 394 317 000

This list really tells us how many insane tracks emerged in 2012. It is now Thrift Shop who appears with a #9 position and 394 million streams. When it reached #1 in the US, the song was the first independent release to reach the top in nearly 20 years and only the second ever.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis haven’t got one #1 among others. Thrift Shop was a beast among the beasts, selling 8 million units to date in the US, one of the very top selling songs of the digital era. A global smash, it was the #2 song of the year 2013 as per the IFPI.

Carly Rae Jepsen has actually had a couple of other hits since “Call me maybe”. “Good time”, with owl City, was a top 10 hit in various markets (US, UK, Japan, France, Belgium, Australia). “I really like you” was a european hit in 2015 (#3 in the UK, top 20 in The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Denmark). It also reached the top 20 in her native Canada and Japan. Well, that’s about it. 🙂
