France Album Sales: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mother’s Milk (1989) Era
If the Red Hot Chili Peppers still failed to reach mainstream success with this album, Mother’s Milk was the band for first step into popular fields. Released after the tragic death of their guitarist and the departure of their drummer, the new sound that resulted from the new band members definitely helped.
What helped even more was Higher Ground, the Stevie Wonder cover which was the band first hit. It wasn’t big in first place, peaking at #54 in UK, but it was still something. Following single Taste the Pain went as high as #29 always in UK. The album climbed up to #52 in the US and reached Gold within’ six months, latter passing Platinum level (1 million) thanks to catalog sales.
