France Album Sales: Red Hot Chili Peppers
One Hot Minute (1995) Era
After trying again and again to break the main audience, the Red Hot Chili Peppers faced the irony to flop with their very first album after their breakthrough.
One more irony is that while 1995 album One Hot Minute disappointed a lot in both the US and the UK, in France the album performed rather well despite its predecessor had an impact more limited than in English-speaking countries.
Singles performed poorly with only My Friends charting with a #40 peak. The album on its side went as high as #3 but also got legs with seven weeks Top 10 during a competitive period. By the end of the year, the album had sold already 210,000 copies. In total, the album lasted 31 weeks inside the Top 50, reaching Platinum (300,000) at the end of 1996.
On its side, Blood Sugar Sex Magik was still selling very well as by June 1997 it went Platinum, only 28 months after hitting 2xGold.
