France Album Sales: Mylène Farmer

Point De Suture (2008) Era

Five singles, five #1 hits. Wow, now that’s a smash album! Well, no. When I started my CSPC analysis, I introduced it by saying that facts can also lie and that we need to study each figure to give a real meaning to facts. That all Point De Suture singles went #1 weren’t a reflection of popularity, it barely meant that nobody was buying singles anymore, automatically sending to the top every single purchased by Mylène Farmer fanbase on debut week.

This album reproduced exactly the same era as Avant Que L’Ombre… in more extreme proportions. That is, very little success among the general public, still insanely loyal and large fanbase.

Lasting only five weeks inside the Top 10, the album moved 385,000 units by the end of 2009, a total many records with 30 or more weeks inside the Top 10 do not reach. The lack of impact of the record can only put it among disappointing albums in spite of its strong sales in absolute terms. In other words, Point De Suture was a weak era but Mylène Farmer popularity was still incredible.

As always, one live album was released at the end of the album promotion, N°5 On Tour. One more #1 record for the artist, it sold 175,000 units by the end of 2010.
