France Album Sales: Eminem
Relapse (2009) Era
It is never easy to change the trajectory of a career once sales get into a downward spiral. A five years hiatus and a market that collapsed in-between just make this spiral reverse even harder.
Lead single We Made You debuted and peaked at #11, the first Eminem lead single to fail the Top 10 since My Name Is in 1999. The album debuted at #1 thanks to both the artist name and the complete absence of competition, but resulted being a major upset. Selling 38,000 units in its first two weeks, the album only added 37,500 more sales in the remaining seven months of 2009. In fact, as incredible as it may seem, the album lasted less weeks inside the Top 200 (22) than its own single lasted inside the Top 100 (26). No subsequent single ever charted as the album was completely dead. In spite of this situation, the label tried to release an extended version of the album with seven additional songs but that edition bombed too with an awful peak of #155. Considering those results, the initially planned Relapse 2 got cancelled by Eminem.
