8 Mile (2002) Era
While Eminem was riding incredibly high with his studio albums, he released 8 Mile with no promotion at all in October 2002. As a result it debuted at #109 only and never broke the Top 100 during 2002.
In January 2003, the single Lose Yourself was issued. It first went 13-13-13-13-11-11 thanks to airplay before booming inside the Top 5 with the movie release. Although the song never went higher than #3 it remained ten weeks inside the Top 5.
Thanks to both the hit and the movie, the album reentered at #134 and climbed week after week until reaching #6. It sold 215,000 units by the end of 2003.
