France Album Sales: Eminem

The Eminem Show (2002) Era

With its predecessor being one of the biggest albums of 2000 in the world, the new one The Eminem Show was heavily anticipated. The hype just got bigger when the lead single started to be aired as Without Me became a massive hit.

The single was his biggest to date at #3 and with an impressive 15 weeks inside the Top 10. The album was aiming to debut at the top considering results of The Marshall Mathers LP but had the bad idea to be released the same day as terrific local seller Boucan D’Enfer by Renaud. This latter album plus Patrick Bruel top seller of the decade Entre Deux explain why The Eminem Show moved between spots 3-5 during 12 weeks after its #2 start. This big run translated an impressive 400,000 units shipped within’ three months during the summer.

Cleanin’ Out My Closet #20 second single stabilized the album until the end of 2002 as it never went lower than #30 for the year, selling 530,000 copies in the process. Although the first semester of 2003 was promotion-wise mostly dedicated to 8 Mile soundtrack that we will study just after, The Eminem Show marketing plans were relaunched in June 2003 with Sing For The Moment hit to go along the Paris tour date at that time. The single peaked at #28 only but revitalized the album very well as it came back inside the Top 10 for three weeks. This success brought in nearly 280,000 more sales, an incredible total of over 800,000 units by the end of 2003.
