France Album Sales: Eminem
The Slim Shady LP (1999) Era
Yes, I know The Slim Shady LP isn’t Eminem debut album. It was Infinite in 1996. This album sold absolutely nothing worldwide, let alone in France, so let’s start with the rapper first notable record.
We are then up to March 1999 when The Slim Shady LP was first released. An instant smash in the US where it debuted with 283,000 copies sold in its first week, the album needed more time to make some noise in Europe.
Everything started with the single My Name Is in June 1999. In France it was a very minor hit, peaking at #68. A few months later following single did worse as Guilty Conscience, featuring legendary Dr. Dre who happened to be also the producer of the album, went only #97.
Eminem was starting to get more and more noticed on both radio and TV yet. As the Album Chart was still a Top 75 only, The Slim Shady LP never charted during 1999 despite selling an estimated 20,000 units for the year.
