France Album Sales: Celine Dion
The Colour Of My Love (1993) Era
In the US, Unison sold 300,000 units in its first year in the market, Celine Dion did 1 million, The Colour Of My Love did 2,5 million. Those figures highlight how much the profile of Celine Dion was increasing in North America was slowly but surely everywhere else.
This album was issued in November 1993 in North America and in February 1994 all over Europe except in France, were it was delayed until June 1994. Why? Quite simply because Ziggy was still smashing France at that point which led Sony to delay this new set in order to fully exploit the previous album with one more single L’Amour Existe Encore.
In June 1994 then, huge four weeks #1 hit in the US The Power Of Love was issued in France. This lead single did well here too, peaking at #3 with 17 weeks Top 10. The album quickly climbed to #7 peak position, hitting Gold (100,000) by August. As the promotion was shortened in France no other single charted, but the album was still up to 181,000 units calculated by the end of the 1994 year.
In January 1994, to capitalize on Ziggy success, her first label released Les Premières Années, a compilation of Celine Dion 80s French songs, which sold an estimated 30,000 units prior D’Eux release.
In November 1994, her first major live album was issued, A L’Olympia. The album peaked at #10 and remained Top 20 during the entire Christmas season selling a calculated 144,000 units after six weeks in sales in 1994.
All in all and while she had yet to get into full force in France, Celine Dion sold over 600,000 albums in France in 1994.
