France Album Sales: Celine Dion
1 Fille & 4 Types (2003) Era
The release of 1 Fille & 4 Types was quite atypical. In fact, in one side Celine Dion bombed just a few months earlier with One Heart, in the other side it was the French follow up to two record breaking sellers.
In France the importance of Jean-Jacques Goldman on both D’Eux and S’Il Suffisait D’Aimer success was always very well known. He didn’t wanted to be that much involved this time so he built a team of four authors including himself, the “4 types” (four guys) referred to on the album title along with “1 Fille” (one girl), e.g. Celine Dion. This title was an attempt to soften the negative impact on Medias of not having Goldman fully involved by turning it into a positive point of view.
Its sales weren’t going to challenge her 90s results, but the album still debuted with a massive 124,000 units sold. Lead single Tout L’Or Des Hommes was a #3 hit and helped the album to secure a Top 5 placing in 11 of the 12 weeks that separated its release from the end of the year. 1 Fille & 4 Types ended 2003 much higher than One Heart as the #5 biggest album of the year, the same placing managed by A New Day Has Come the previous year. The album was mostly done after this busy Christmas season, it sold 727,000 copies by the end of 2008. As mentioned in the One Heart article, this figure is lower than actual sales due to early incomplete figures. With revised figure, 1 Fille & 4 Types is estimated on 830,000 units by 2008.
A two CD package containing both D’Eux and S’Il Suffisait D’Aimer was released along with this new French album, selling 27,000 copies by 2008. Those sales will be added to respective tallies of those albums.
In June 2004, the artist first English live album A New Day… Live in Las Vegas was released. Quickly dropping out after its #9 debut, this release sold 47,000 copies by 2008.
