France Album Sales: Celine Dion

Taking Chances (2007) Era

Considering previous French album barely passed 200,000 units in its first months, for the very first time in many years there wasn’t that much of an anticipation for Celine Dion new English language album, Taking Chances. When release dates got published, it was already obvious it was going to miss the top spot since it was going to face Johnny Hallyday new album. That’s exactly what happened as this latter artist debuted with 107,000 copies sold of his album against 29,000 for Taking Chances.

As singles failed to gain traction the album had very few resistance. It lasted only two weeks inside the Top 10 and 14 weeks inside the Top 100. Even considering the Top 200 chart, this record was the third English studio album in a row to fail to reach 30 weeks, showing the strong difficulties to get a real hit with English tracks of the superstars.

Sales-wise, Taking Chances sold 128,000 physical units by the end of 2008 plus an estimated 5,000 digital sales.
