France Album Sales: Celine Dion

One Heart (2003) Era

A New Day Has Come wasn’t as big worldwide as its predecessors, but it still was one of the best sellers from its year. New 2003 album One Heart continued the downhill trend and arguably ended Celine Dion days as a blockbuster seller.

The album debuted big as it had to be expected, starting at #1 despite facing new releases from Placebo (Sleeping With Ghosts) and Linkin Park (Meteora). It sold 62,000 copies on its first week.

Singles were poorly received in France yet with I Drove All Night peaking at #22 and One Heart at #63. As a result the album dropped like a stone being out of the Top 10 after four weeks only and out of the Top 50 after 11 weeks. After over nine months of sales in 2003, Placebo album was the 12th top seller of the year, Linkin Park effort was #22 while One Heart was way down at #43, reflecting how few legs it had. By the end of 2008, One Heart sales stood at 209,000 units, way under past Celine Dion standards. GFK figures were far from being comprehensive in 2003 as it has been already discussed. Although in 2003 she sold 850,000 albums and 160,000 singles of her main releases, the later revised figures indicated 1,199,000 combined sales for Celine Dion physical records among the year end Top 500. As a result sales of One Heart for the year are estimated on 260,000 units. It must be noted the album went quickly Platinum, representing 300,000 units shipped. A part of those copies most likely ended up being returned later in the year.
