France Album Sales: AC/DC
For Those About To Rock We Salute You (1981) Era
The new superstars kept their strong recording pace with a new album ready for 1981 fall, For Those About To Rock We Salute You. Released a few weeks before Christmas while AC/DC material is not exactly the most Christmassy music, as a result the album had lower peaks than expected by its strong sales as big local cash-in records topped it in most countries.
France is a good reflection of that as the album peaked at #7 only, a position that would suggest the record went Gold at most. In reality, it was the very last LP of 1981 to be awarded with a Platinum disc (400,000), at the same time as Highway To Hell. Thus, it was their third consecutive Platinum album within’ two years, a rare feat for French market at the time. It must be said that Platinum in France was way harder to reach than in other countries as it was the equivalent of roughly three Platinum discs in both the US and UK. Speaking about the US, this album remained their only #1 album there until 2008 album Black Ice joined it.
This album kept charting in early 1982 but it was selling the huge number of units shipped during the last month of 1981. Merging all information together, complete AC/DC discography sales in France up the end of 1982 appeared to be on following results.
