Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Artist Comparison page measure?

The Artist Comparison page compares two artists across all relevant metrics including album sales, single sales, streaming data (Spotify and cross-platform) as well as various popularity and trend indicators. It provides a direct, real-time comparison based on current performance.

Does the comparison reflect historical strength?

No. The comparison focuses on the current global results and activity of each artist. It answers the question “Who’s the biggest artist in the world right now?”.
If you want to explore historical strength and career-long results, refer to the League Score for a quick snapshot of the biggest all-time performers. For a deeper dive into cumulative sales across all formats, visit the Best-Selling Artists page, which aggregates top artists’ comprehensive lifetime data.

Why does the score seem wide even when artists are close?

The comparison uses a matchup logic system instead of a simple score sum. Each metric is treated as a win or a loss — if one artist scores even slightly higher in a category, they win that metric entirely.
For example, if Artist A reaches 80% of Artist B’s performance in every statistic, Artist A would still lose every individual metric and end up with a 24–0 scoreline.

What is the purpose of the matchup logic?

This method highlights leads on a metric-by-metric basis rather than merging numbers together. It creates a clearer, more decisive overview of which artist outperformed the other across individual aspects.

Where can I find more details about specific metrics?

You can hover over the small tooltips (circled i) next to indicators for quick explanations. If a tooltip isn’t clear or if you need more context, feel free to ask questions in the community forum — your input helps improve clarity for everyone!

How often is the data updated?

Most streaming-related figures are updated daily. Pure sales are updated on a one-by-one basis, with a priority given to artists currently moving the most units. Due to the state of the sales market, ongoing sales updates rarely affect comparison results in a meaningful way.
This ensures that comparisons reflect the latest trends and consumption patterns, keeping results timely and accurate.
