And as MJD pointed in “More features, less problems” article:
"It was the fact that not all artists and genre perform equally well in distinct platforms, like Spotify and Apple Music for example,
many Celine's global hits are very popular in other platforms.
Billboard( https://www.billboard.com/lists/celine-dion-my-heart-will-go-on-hot-100-chart-rewind-1998/)has post official stream figures for My heart will go on,"Heart” has drawn 5 billion in cumulative airplay audience and 728 million official (only counted !)U.S. streams ,and over 588 million streams in 2019 but only less numbers in Streaming Masters – Celine Dion article in 2021.
And only one song from the ’90 inside top 10 most US streamed songs of the ’80s and’90s No. 1s, according to(Billboard)Nielsen Music( https://jezebel.com/which-no-1-singles-from-the-80s-and-90s-stand-the-test-1844294232?rev=1595250877341
So stream figure of "Heart" must be very overrated, as well as Let's Talk Love ,Titanic Soundtrack's AND CEILING'S.
So stream figure of “Heart” must be very Underrated... sorry for the misleading
MJD, I hope you can provide a breakdown of Céline Dion's estimated sales in every region (America, Europe, ASIA etc) just like what you did to most of the contemporary legacy acts.
It's wild to me that Let's Talk about Love sold more than 40 million EAS mainly based off of one song. And that's not including the sales of the Titanic soundtrack. That is just mindblowing. Has any other album sold more than 20 million EAS off the strength of one single?
If you go to "Top songs" then you will see that Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" has generated more than 63M EAS so far. There are lots of more songs which have generated more than 20M EAS and therefore, their respective studio albums for sure have also generated more than 20M EAS e.g. based on their respective tracks.
Here is an example:
Eagles - "Hotel California" with 53,295,000 EAS
with its respective studio album Hotel California (1976) with 72,648,000 EAS of which 19,353,000 EAS have been generated from the other album's tracks.
The popularity of 'My Heart Will Go On' is truly colossal.
To look at it another way (unless I have misunderstood the methodology) the success of that one song is greater than 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Led Zeppelin IV' and 'Back in Black' in their entirety as albums. Astonishing.
My comment should probably be read with the caveat 'if true/accurate'. I agree that no methodology can be completely 'bullet proof'...
I should have said "more than 40 million EAS based off of one song", my bad.
According to "Top songs" at the moment there are three songs with more than 40M EAS:
"My Heart Will Go On", "Hotel California" and "Billie Jean". So, the answer to your initial question is yes.
Céline is currently at 199.4 million and only needs 600,000 to reach 200 million. Encore Un Soir's sales is incomplete (missing 700k more) and Courage pure sales is missing too (according to IFPI, Courage sold 600k). Updating these two albums would definitely make Celine the second woman to reach 200M units, which is a milestone. I hope you guys would update atleast these two albums. 😊
Why MJD consider the last update of her article as of October 4 , 2021 ( only streaming ) for the Leaderboard to update . Her last update September 23 , 2016 .
How could Courage have sold only 140K cspc if only in its debut week it sold +270K worldwide? (source: mediatraffic)
This article is eight years old, only spotify streaming sales.counted for releases after mid 2016
She has technically passed the 200m mark, but won't be updated before Taylor makes it past that mark. Celine is the 14th artist to cross that mark in CSPC terms.
