The truth about Britney Spears’ album sales in Asia
SOUTHEAST ASIA – THAILAND
I’m sure the South Korea / Japan-like figures stroke your eyes after the previous pages’ comments. All patterns from those countries are validated e.g. BOMT not outselling Oops, Britney being the top selling studio album and Greatest Hits being the last big seller before the market collapsed. Once again, those insights are incredibly worthy at the time of estimating other artists.
Just like Indonesia, Thailand’s market dropped more slowly than many Asian countries. Retaining a healthy level overall deeper into the 00s. By 2003, it was on par with markets of Sweden and the Netherlands at 22/24 million albums sold respectively. By 2007 though, this latter country’s album market was already 3 times bigger than Thailand’s (18,6 million vs 6,2 million) which explains why Blackout failed to reach even Gold status.
Merging all the data together concludes on the following album sales to date:
- Baby One More Time – 140,000
- Oops!… I did It Again – 145,000
- Britney – 155,000
- In The Zone – 85,000
- Greatest Hits, My Prerogative – 80,000
- Blackout – 7,500
- Circus – 7,500
- The Singles Collection – 4,000
