France best selling albums ever: Charango by Yannick Noah (2006)

Charango

After two million selling albums in 2000 (Yannick Noah) and 2003 (Pokhara), former tennis champion – winner of Roland Garros slam in 1984 – Yannick Noah was in front of a new massive challenge in 2006, e.g. achieving a third consecutive million selling studio album.

While the #1 debut was almost a given considering the artist previous sales, sticking within’ the Top 4 during the complete Christmas seller was already big. Thus, managing 69 weeks inside the top 20 in spike of all sales quickly gained was a magnificent way to manage this third million seller. This unbelievable performance put him an elite group made of Jean-Jacques Goldman, Michael Jackson, Francis Cabrel, Mylène Farmer, Céline Dion and Patricia Kaas.

From 2006 backwards, there is no GFK year end chart with sales available. Still, I do own original excel file of IFOP Year End chart for that year so there is still no guesses involved on all larger figures below.

Yearly French retail sales stand as below:

  • 2006: 353,000 CD + 4,000 DL
  • 2007: 565,000 CD + 10,000 DL
  • 2008: 155,000 CD + 4,000 DL
  • 2009: 47,000
  • 2010: 35,000
  • 2011: 25,000
  • 2012-2015: 35,000
  • 2CD boxes: 35,000

A grand total of 1,258,000 copies sold.

Net shipment as of the end of 2015 is estimated at 1,275,000 copies.
