France Album Sales: Whitney Houston
Just Whitney (2002) Era
After registering unbelievable sales from the mid-80s to 2000, several divas bombed big time in following years. Mariah Carey did so with Glitter in 2001, Madonna with American Life in 2003, same year as Celine Dion album One Heart. Whitney Houston was no exception as her blockbuster years ended in 2002 with the huge flop that was Just Whitney.
The lead single Whatchulookinat peaked at an awful #65 position and next three singles failed to chart. The album debuted at an incredibly low #25 spot and went down and down until falling off the Top 150 some 15 weeks later. As a trademark of its flop, the album went Gold representing more than 100,000 copies shipped within’ two weeks, despite selling a mere 55,000 units during its chart life, meaning results have been well under initial expectations.
In 2003 fall, Christmas effort One Wish, The Holiday Album was released. As those albums aren’t much popular in French culture and giving the current bad period for the artist, it unsurprisingly failed to chart.
Considering the artist personal issues, her label decided to release one more compilation in 2007, The Ultimate Collection. It peaked at #5 in the Compilation chart and sold 40,000 copies.
