France Album Sales: Coldplay

Mylo Xyloto Era

As the wave of success can’t increase forever, 2011 set Mylo Xyloto ended Coldplay run in France of continuous improvement. It was everything except a bad seller yet, far from that.

Lead single Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall had mixed results peaking at #20 on merged chart. The album still opened with 57,000 sales thanks to their newly acquired fan base, but dropped from the top spot on its second week against 2011 giant album 21 by Adele despite the fact she was on her 41th week. Second single then took off, Paradise ended as one of the band biggest smash to date with a #5 peak and a gigantic 95 weeks charted. As Mylo Xyloto was the first Coldplay album released during the busy Christmas period, this hit pushed a large number of consumers to purchase the album during the holydays season. Never dropping below #6 during the nine weeks leading to Christmas, this enabled the set to move 256,000 copies in 2011.

During the complete year of 2012 the album stayed firmly inside the Top 100 with Paradise continued its smash and Princess Of China featuring Rihanna gaining relevant airplay as well. The album sold 120,000 units for the year. At that point Live 2012 was released as well shifting just 100,000 copies within’ five weeks after a #5 early December debut.
