The truth about Britney Spears’ album sales in American continent
Latin AMERICA – Mexico
Please be aware that even if certifications were published in 2006 and 2011, they were using criteria last published by overall IFPI documents which were not up to date. Thus, by 2011 column uses criteria from 2009.
In the case of Mexico, we notice that all figures almost perfectly fit together – Britney.com information, official certification and our own estimates.
In The Zone line is the only one with a bit of controversy as 160,000 is too high for the range as shown by 2006. Obviously, there is 10 years of catalog sales, but this album is unlikely to have sold as much as 10,000 units in that time span in Mexico, making the 160,000 estimate optimistic.
New information comes in for Britney as officially it was never certified, and the Mexican charts weren’t available by 2001. The album performed rather well with sales in the 240,000 to 320,000 units range. Given the lack of additional data to be more precise, the remaining tool we can use is the sales curve of the artist. In most markets, sales of Britney were closer to the level of In The Zone rather than BOMT / Oops which suggests a total in the lower part of the possible interval.
Merging all the data together concludes on the following album sales to date:
- Baby One More Time – 425,000
- Oops!… I did It Again – 350,000
- Britney – 250,000
- In The Zone – 150,000
- Greatest Hits, My Prerogative – 100,000
- Blackout – 50,000
- Circus – 75,000
- The Singles Collection – 50,000
