Norway – Year-End Album Chart 1995 – with Sales

Winter

For more than two years now I have been explaining to you the mechanics of the music industry. We can’t analyse without raw data though. I do not comment on weekly information from Soundscan, RIAA, BPI, etc… since they are widely available online so there is no point in copy / pasting the same data. However, official information which has never been seen before is priceless.

There is little know regarding the Norwegian music industry. Their official website ‘ifpi.no’ removed certifications from the 90s which were available previously, which themselves already had the usual limitations of figures frozen to thresholds, and awards provided only when requested.

Their market is massively dominated by streaming nowadays. Back in the 90s big albums were shifting 6 digit figures. At the time, the daily newspaper Arbeiderbladet, rebranded as Dagsavisen since 1997, used to print the annual top selling albums in the country. This precious information isn’t available online – well, wasn’t until our new team member Al kindly scanned it for us!

The below picture provides the ranking and sales of all albums which moved over 50,000 units in 1995 which includes the likes of Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. An additional list of albums with sales ranging from 40,000 to 50,000 is also added to the bottom right. All the figures are valid up to December, 21 1995. No more time to waste, here comes the list!
