Streaming Masters – Ozuna
Latin music is massive on streaming platforms, like it was shown by J. Balvin‘s success and the smash of Despacito in recent years. Let’s now have a look at the unbelievable numbers amassed by one of the representants of this wave, the Puerto Rican singer Ozuna!
Method
As detailed in the Fixing Log article, Spotify represents 157 million of the 272 million users of streaming platforms, while YouTube is pretty much the only video platform generating some revenue for the industry. Below is the equivalence set on the aforementioned article:
Audio Stream 1500 plays equal 1 album unit
Video Stream 11,750 views equal 1 album unit
Equivalent Albums Sales (EAS) = 272/157 * Spotify streams / 1500 + YouTube views / 11750
Results

A small word on his discography: his debut album turned barely 18 months old yesterday. And he is up to 15 million! Way to go for this new generation!
Hey mjd, would you mind doing Halsey’s stats? I’m really eager to see that!
Ozuna’s numbers are really incredible – that Orphan section, wow! For an artist who only records in Spanish to be streamed in the same league as top English-language acts (above Ariana Grande, less than 2 million below the Weeknd!) is very impressive, especially in such a short time.
I’d be interested to know whether he’s earned that many streams almost entirely out of Hispanic markets or if he’s also doing well internationally.
Hi Orange!
His biggest markets are obviously hispanic countries, but he still got some streams elsewhere. He has 7 charted songs in the US Hot 100, several in Italian and Swiss charts too, while of course Taki Taki was a global hit, although the primary artist was DJ Snake. He also gets millions of YouTube views per week in countries like France, Germany, the UK, etc, so he is definitely growing globally!
That’s very interesting, thank you MJD! Ozuna’s future is looking bright then!
Never heard of him. I must be too old. I want Iron Maiden analysis 🙂
Damn, never heard of this guy………….clearly streaming is slamming as a new form of music consumption. It’s cool to see this new platform as it grows from a baby to a full grown monster!!!
