Her total sales didn't increase that much except for streaming, so yeah that couldn't be a priority. But the album total CSPC isn't updated yet, and The Fame could rise 7 spots to no. 33, so that could be a justification.

They haven't updated her page in almost 2 years, and the sales are up by 5.7 million since the last review. So shut the f*ck up!

No need to be rude, I was just responding to a harsher point of view. A lot of artists haven't been updated for years or at all, so being surprised about this update isn't as outrageous as your post seems to make it.

I was wrong though, The Fame only rises to no. 34. Sorry

Hi Fanofpop!

Among the list we published earlier two updates are still overdue: Miley Cyrus & Eminem. We had in mind an update of Drake once he releases a new album as well.

Hi Luka!

Updates of artists with the new article template are rather fast to do, and we like to keep the discography updated from today's top sellers. I know that there are larger sellers in the big picture, but if we were there in 1971 I hope we would have been in touch enough to publish Led Zeppelin before Patti Page. Also, even if artists like Gaga had no time to challenge the historical biggies so far, they do have multiple albums landing very high on annual lists. Ultimately, I would like to get all top sellers completed obviously, but also the top 3/5 albums from every year.

Hi again,

France pure sales (not shipments) are now reported at 36,300 ( http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Lady-GaGa/news-116183.html) but the shipment number you have is 31,000. Like your US estimate, these seem far too low even by conservative standards...

Ryan.

Hi Ryan!

These numbers climb fast at the end of the year. We tend to forget it since they are so low now, but in %, the difference is maybe even bigger than in the past. Last albums from the Weeknd or Dua Lipa for example nearly doubled their sales in the last few weeks of the year without even being that high. Folklore was at 47k and with minimal weekly sales by mid-Nov in the UK, by the end of the year it had topped 70k.

Hi MJD!

Glad to see you updated Gaga's discography, however I have to say that the graph you used for the header is very confusing/misleading: ASIB has 6-7M total there while it should be closer to 8M. Also it's childish to say "Artpop bombed so badly, her label moved etc." because that wasn't even the case: she departed with her manager, meanwhile DWUW video was scrapped so the era's best single was dead. She was left without management for a while and then G.U.Y. music video came too late with no promo from Interscope. The end. The album itself had a lot of potential, which is really unfortunate.
PS. There are few typos "12,039,000 album albums" and "2 million on YouTube" (should be billion)

Hi LGee!

The graph template is the same for all artists, there is some 3D perspective, you need to look at the scale in the same plan to read it correctly. I don't think the comment is 'childish' or whatever, it's typical (and logical) that labels "forget" albums that were unsuccessful when building tracklists of compilations, music videos or live sets. The fact that no song from Artpop was ever used to sell another product is telling and a sharp difference with what happened with The Fame which was milked to death as its songs were so organically huge. There are always reasons / excuses to explain this or that, we address factual results, the point is not to bring up wishful thinking of what could have been possibly done or how successful a flop album could have been.

As for youtube videos, we track (for all artists) uploads with over 1 million streams only, if no song made this mark, we list the largest video below. There are hundreds of tiny videos of every song that would be impossible to collect, and quite pointless since they don't change the numbers. Jewels N' Drugs official upload for example has 293,000 views, divide by 11,750 that means less than 25 CSPC units, with songs' EAS rounded to the thousand, the impact would be null most of the time.

Thanks for pointing out the typos, they have been fixed!

Hi MJD, I need to ask why you reduced Judas, DWUW, TEOG, MTN and Applause digital sales from older update? They were like this before:

And what comes to the graph, yeah I noticed that perspective but I think that 3D effect is very misleading when those bars aren't even close to touching the back wall (those measurement lines). But I know it's very much the same for other artists too.

Artpop sold more digital albums than Bangerz but second is considered a strong album with the same amount of singles. Sounds hateful to call it a flop or whatever...

PS. DWUW is missing 52M YouTube views from the audio that is private now, can be found here: https://kworb.net/youtube/video/A3jzMyYgPQs.html

Nope, stay pressed hater. Chromatica did amazing compared to her peers, it's already over 2M CSPC with only two singles.

Hi LGee!

IIRC since I went through many other things since I updated these digital sales, I reduced a bit some figures for her UK singles since our former estimates appeared to be higher than OCC recent publications. An error of 10-20k there can lead to larger gaps since there are extrapolations maded from the main markets to the weakest ones.

About the comparison Artpop vs Bangerz, one was seen as the biggest pop star on Earth in 2012, the other as an unknown singer in a good part of the World and an unfashioned one in remaining markets. The fact that both did about the same just show that the former flopped and the latter succeeded. The scale of success isn't the same for all, it depends on the fanbase size, the investments made for producing and promoting, which implies also working with more successful collaborators, etc. There are movies which grossed $500 million but are seen as massive failures and others with $50 million made that are smashes, it all depends on the expectations.

I have little problems in calling Artpop a flop too because these kind of albums also impact very negatively the future career of an artist. The kind of albums which downgrades the status of an artist and lowers expectations for everything coming next. There are many artists who did wonderful numbers with several albums, then one era breaks the momentum and nothing gives it back to the artist. It's like Madonna's MDNA (or even Hard Candy to some extent), MJ's Invincible, Spears' Blackout, etc. Albums that haven't sold so poorly, but took off the artists from their perch, notably damaging sales in the long run.
