Coldplay Career CSPC Results
So, after checking all figures, you must be looking for how many overall album sales equivalent each Coldplay record achieved. Well, at this point we barely need to do the addition of all figures defined all over this article!
In the following table, all categories display figures that way, e.g. in equivalent album sales. For example, Mylo Xyloto singles released in download format sold the equivalent of 1,790,000 albums – 17,900,000 downloads with a 10 to 1 weighting.
Earlier in this article we saw that A Rush Of Blood To The Head sold 5,6 million units by March 2003, eight months after being first released. At that time, there was no other release containing its tracks, there was no streaming service and there was no digital downloads. The only non-album format was physical singles, which as shown by this total bring A Rush Of Blood To The Head total to 5,8 million during its first eight months. A Head Full Of Dreams was released just nine months ago, being up to 5,5 million album sales equivalent.
As by 2002 their fan base was still not completely built the comparison is not fully fair, but it truly reveals how wrong looking at album sales only can give us a wrong view of both the market overall health and an act popularity. Coldplay are still pretty hot, hardly much less than in the past.
Unsurprisingly their 2002 set comes on top with 18,2 million overall sales generated, but the remarkable feat achieved by the band resides in their incredible consistency. Each of their five first albums exceed 10 million while their last two eclipsed 5 million and keep climbing.
At 83,2 million album sales equivalent, Coldplay is undoubtedly one of the biggest acts which emerged in the last 20 years. More than albums sold thanks to a short-lived hype, their discography overall appeal is quite mindblowing which will grant them sizable catalog sales for many, many years to come independantly of the format alive.
As usual, feel free to comment and / or ask a question!
