MJD already addressed the fact that Christina was perhaps more popular in the West, so listing charting positions in the Anglosphere was redundant. Avril is simply miles more popular in Asia and does better on streaming than Christina. And also most of Avrils biggest hits come from the early 2000s, such as Complicated, S8er Boi and I’m With You, so Avril is really on a level playing field on that front. You saying “but *I* know more Christina songs” isn’t exactly hard hitting evidence as Avril is proven to be more popular by factual numbers on streaming. Without features they’re sales are similar but Avril is more popular today according to the numbers.
Alex. You are acting as if US, Canada are the only market in the world. In Europe, Asia, Latin America, Avril was the bigger artist by a big margin. You point out that, her biggest hits are in late 00s, 10s. Which just went on to prove that she continue to be big at a time when the market was really2 low. And the fact that she was the biggest in Asia at a time when the market was absolutely pathetic definitely affects her sales badly. Christina was big at a time when the market was at all time peak. By the time the market went down she was already not relevant in the industry. Therefore, whatever sales sje collect it was during a time when the market was healthy. If Avril would have debut earlier, she probably would have had higher sales than Xtina.
I remember her being popular but I did not know her debut was so huge. The 3rd biggest seller for a female during the 00s.
Michael that's not true. I was trying to be modest when I only mentioned three countries. But I could go on forever. The only market where Avril is bigger than Christina in terms of hit singles is Asia, most notably in Japan. Otherwise Christina surpasses Avril everywhere around the world including the UK, Europe, US, Canada, Australia and Latin America.
Xtina has
11 top 10 hits and 5 #1 songs in the US
18 top 10 hits and 4 #1 songs in the UK
14 top 10 hits and 5 #1 songs in Canada
12 top 10 hits and 1 #1 songs in Germany
15 top 10 hits and 5 #1 songs in New Zealand
10 top 10 hits and 2 #1 songs in Austria
12 top 10 hits and 2 #1 songs in Switzerland
18 top 10 hits and 3 #1 songs in Australia
15 top 10 hits and 4 #1 songs in Ireland
Avril has
5 top 10 hits and 1 #1 song in the US
7 top 10 hits and 0 #1 songs in the UK
8 top 10 hits and 3 #1 songs in Canada
2 top 10 hits and 0 #1 songs in Germany
5 top 10 hits and 2 #1 songs in New Zealand
5 top 10 hits and 1 #1 songs in Austria
3 top 10 hits and 0 #1 songs in Switzerland
7 top 10 hits and 2 #1 songs in Australia
8 top 10 hits and 2 #1 songs in Ireland
Xtina has sold 12,740,000 physical singles and 69.950,000 digital singles worldwide (according to this site)
Avril has sold 3,510,000 physical singles and 46,160,000 digital singles worldwide (according to this site)
Avril is indeed more popular in Asia than Christina but let's not pretend like that's the world. Everywhere else (including the US, UK, Europe, Australia and Canada) Christina does have FACTUALLY much more top 10 hits and #1 hits (even if you exclude the feautures). Thus concluding to the point that the general public knows more Christina Aguilera songs than Avril Lavigne songs. This is a logical conclusion and it is based on charting measurement across the world and time, not on my opinion as you implied.
And like I said in my comment before, bigger streaming numbers are not an indication for more popularity overall considering their career span of 20 years and the fact that those streaming numbers mostly come from the younger generation (who were attracted to Avril's discography due to her worldwide #1 hit girlfriend and popularity in the late 2000s) which is amazing. However these 12 to 18 year olds certainly don't define the world population. People my age (now 25 to 30) who grew up with artists from the early 2000s typically don't contribute to big streaming or youtube views. That doesn't mean we disappeared from the world. We are just excluded from that type of measurement which is why modern streaming forces are certainly not reliable to meausure popularity across time and different generations.
charts >>>>>>>> streaming
Conclusion: According to worldwide chart numbers (which include every generation and recognize time as a changing factor) Christina is more popular. According to streaming and social media (younger generation) Avril is more popular as of 2020. According to sales they are both pretty equal if you exclude Christina's collaborations, if not (because why would you? She still profits from them and gets her reasonable share of the revenues) Christina is more successfull. Avril's net worth is estimitated by multiple sources to be around $45 to $50 million whereas Christina's net worth is estimitated to be around $160 million to $180 million by different sources. Based on all of this and the fact that Christina also has more accolades like 6 Grammy awards, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Billboard Music Award, Disney Legend award, lifetime achievement award "the voice of a generation" etc. and the fact that Christina's music and vocals are cited as an inspiration by much more artists than Avril's music is, it is logical to state that Christina is a bigger and more impactful artist overall. That doesn't degrade Avril's music, artistry and impact though. She's great too.
One of these days can you please do more global heatmaps, I have a couple of suggestions: Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Celine Dion, Adele, Katy Perry... and maybe Janet Jackson? Lol. ☺️
Hi pls update us for "Head Above Water" album sales Worldwide and every countries thanks.
What's wrong with this place? First, they took sales away from P! Nk and now they took 1 million from Avril Lavigne ??? With what credibility do they want to be seen if they even have the albums Head Above Water and Love Sux changed places, they don't update their sales to the letter. The sales they show for Head Above Water are the same as they did in 2019 as if they had removed the album from everywhere after 2019. Correct your mistakes. 1 month ago Let Go had 20.5 million and now 19.3? This is a fraud and they don't even answer.
Hi Nayareth!
When you start seeing "frauds" on automated processes, you should start questioning your objectivity. Pure sales aren't updated daily - it's would be an impossible task. It takes years to go around all artists, and Avril Lavigne isn't a priority for some years as she is selling poorly nowadays. Also, not sure what you mean by sales "taken away", at best, the automated process saved some duplicated streams (it happens in a precise timeframe when Spotify updates its database and there are numbers available for two distinct days during some minutes) and it was solved in the following update.
