The voting system actually penalises Hikaru Utada, as she only has a times two multiplier, REM has a times four. I think you've just got to accept that, maybe some of these unknown acts to you, are actually far more popular than you have given them credit for.
Another very plausible reason, could simply be that, some of these acts have more active, online fans.
From a personal perspective I'd love to see Whitesnake, but from an overall perspective, The Beach Boys.
They're a strange case. I do think they are infinitely more acclaimed than their success would attest but then so are The Velvet Underground, The Sex Pistols and even on a higher scale, Dylan and Bowie.
Smiley's favorite Radiohead album must be Amnesiac because he asked the same question two months ago 😆 They might be close to 50m EAS, not enough to be on the list.
And Martin, you're showing your age with that Sex Pistols reference 😉 The Clash would be a much better example.
Two others :
Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair
Peter Gabriel - So (around 15m)
I’s wanna see Frank Sinatra as he’s probably the highest selling act not studied but there’s no way I’m ever voting for him simply because the article would take months and months to make and I’d rather see multiple articles that would come in the time just to make his
Hi guys!
Just to let you know that with Deep Purple posted, I removed R.E.M. from the votes since they won this round and will be the next artist studied. If you voted for them, don't forget to give back your voting points to remaining artists!
Also, keep in mind you are free to update your choices how many times you want, what will matter will be the script shot by the time the next CSPC is added.
Yes you are right I believe I did. I'm not sure if it got a response though so just thought I'd re-up...
Yes, I suspect you are correct. I would imagine their biggest album would be OK Computer probably followed by Kid A but it's hard to see either cracking 15 million EAS...
I'd be more inclined to go with The Bends being their second most popular album
Utada is among the most successful artists in Japan of all time. Like top 5.
She sold many millions. More than all of the artists you mentioned except maybe the Beach Boys
Some artists you may want to add:
IU - she has over 110 million Digital singles reported by Gaon and over 2B in Genie, only those two translate to 24.6m EAS so i'm assuming she's at around 30 million
Nicki Minaj - 22B in Spotify and around 50M Digital Singles in US + 4M reported pure albums in US = +33,5M
and, one of the limits is "over 15 million CSPC sales with a single album", does Blackpink count? they do have more than 15 million CSPC and only one album but a lot comes from their Orphan thanks to EPs and so
"Maybe the Beach Boys" ? 😆 They sold like four times more than Utada... Also I'm pretty sure Motley Crue sold more than her, and maybe also Janis Joplin.
Is there a possibility Kanye can go from tier 2 to tier 3?
He is quite a powerful digital seller, with 20m cspc there at least
25m pure album sales+
and he’s at 23B Spotify streams so he should be around 25m CSPC there as well
So that’s 70m+
i think tier 3 was around 65-70m cspc or so?
if not yet, do you think he could get to tier 3 next year?
When iu got an streaming article they didnt use the same formula for her genie numbers since she is a lot more local/asian centric. As for her digital singles, chartmasters dont seem to count post 2017 downloads so her numbers are likely a lot lower than your 24.6 prediction
Hi Rom!
To answer your pre-modification message asking why your vote hasn't count, that's correct, when you create 15 fake accounts in minutes to vote for one singer your votes are deleted. Unexpected, right?
Hi Fanofpop!
Yup, I removed some fake votes yesterday which led artists like Hikaru and Xuxa go down.
