I'd also like to know what ratings 1-4 represent. I understand it's based on the potential strength of their catalogue, but what makes an act a 1 or a 3?
Hi Molly!
I would think their career total is around 20m. A huge number for a metal band, but far from the 50m requirement we have for the voting list.
SoaD is no doubt one of the top selling hard rock / metal bands of the 00's still.
4 is 90m+, 3 is 65m+, 2 is 50m+ and 1 is 30-50m roughly. Some artists might over or underperform once we study them, these are just ballparks.
Thanks AI! One more thing though: off the top of your head, who'd you say was the best-selling metal band of the 00s?
Thank you! But wow, that means Tupac is likely to be the 3rd best selling rapper of all time. I wouldn't have expected that at all.
What are your estimations for luis miguel pure album sales? I have seen a few articles mention he sold over 100m but I am guessing they either meant records or were mediaplaying as most labels do
what are total cspc do you think Tom Perry’s Full Moon Fever will be around?
Could t.A.T.u qualify for this? i've read in articles that their 2002 album has sold around 13 million global pure copies but i'm not sure if it's true haha
I'm glad R.E.M. is poised to win this, and frankly I wish these 100 million-selling acts would be a priority over 30 million-selling acts like Hikaru Utada, I mean isn't 100m a significant milestone ?
Do The Allman Brothers warrant a CSPC? What would their numbers be like, apparently Brothers & Sisters has sold around 7 million copies?
7 million seems very unlikely considering it's only platinum in the US, where they had most of their success... Their CSPC total would probably be under 30 million.
Three albums that I think are likely to be over 15m :
Enigma - MCMXC a.D.
Savage Garden - Savage Garden
Shaggy - Hot Shot
Although I would also like to see the 100M+ artists completed, I think the voting system is pretty fun. Also, after REM wins, all those people who voted for them will get to move their votes to someone else, so Hikaru utada will not necessarily win the next one.
All my 3 votes are currently for REM but I'd like to see Frank Sinatra or 2Pac studied next.
This voting system kind of sucks. I mean who is Hikaru Utada?I'd love to see Motley Crue, Jethro Tull, Janis Joplin, Whitesnake and The Beach Boys, but at this rate its gonna be in 20 years time. Oh man 🙁
I had the same question and MJD replied with this

Hi Fanofpop!
I’m definitely hoping the pace will be faster. Without getting into too many personal details, at the moment I’m in the front line driving a very large project for my client, and when the working day is over I need to take care of my kid who still doesn’t sleep too well, to do many appointments as the second is on his way, I’m just ending the search/purchase process of a house as I’m moving this summer, and every time I can save some minutes I work on ChartMasters, so these are very long days.
I’m planning everything so that in about 6 months I’ll start having more time available to work on the site. Also, we invested a lot in CSPC’s format and tools to industrialize the process. Right now it adds time to the completion of each artist as every time we add new pieces, but I expect that very soon the balance will be positive, and we will start being faster and faster. If everything goes as expected, by mid-2022 I expect to be able to post a new major artist every 10-14 days, and updates fairly quickly.

i feel like the automatic updates are starting to pay off now tho like with the automatic album updates feature. So we will probably see a lot more new artists next year than we think.
Just out of interest, do Radiohead not meet the stated criteria for study? Is it the case that their profile is greater than their actual success?
