Yes, I want BLACKPINK too, but from what I know they take artists that have 30m CSPC estimated+-, BP is a bit short on that, But don't worry we have Consistently biggest streaming numbers across all Platforms, and biggest digital's in comparison to all other GG's, We just need to get bit more physicals, According to IFPI The Album sold 3m+ Pure copies, so just few more years and we can start to calculate when we will be able to beat Spice Girls:) It's good to know that you don't need to sell 40m physicals and you can beat other artist...
Hello, I am very surprised to see Big Bang here on the list, why? Why they are considered to be here on the list but Blackpink is not ? I just did some fast digging on BB physical sales, they only have around 6m physicals sold based on older data, but since they have been absolutely inactive in past few years not much changed in there data. first of all physicals are just +- 3m more than BP, but there streaming - spotify, YT is just few streams, On the other hand they do have digitals, but i wonder what will be there value once half if not most of that came from Chinese markets. Right now Big bang is in no Comparison with Blackpink by far, so the question is why big bang is on the list and Blackpink is not, like what ta hell ? I am sorry but this really confused me
It's down to their insane download sales really. Their streams are really strong too, especially in China.
The requirement for the list is about 30m CSPC which Blackpink hasn't reached yet, although I can see both them and Twice getting there in a year or two.
Is there a deduction of some kind for Chinese downloads or it's all counted normally and then weight... ?
For albums we use sales*(price in Yuan/50).

With this formula they have 682,000 CSPC from albums and 269,000 CSPC from singles in the DL format there.
Do you count all korean downloads the same? I remember starting from certain year they increased their price which is why older artists have insane numbers. Without mentioning gaon is streaming based since 2018 and downloads are kinda dead now.
I feel like artists have comparatively a harder time gaining equivalent album sales purely through streaming now, making the totals for older acts seem inflated to me
You are not wrong. A good chunk of SK DLs were not paid for or achieved through subscription like services etc. In the case of International artists they represent non-Japanese Asian sales rather than Korean ones exclusively since places like South East Asia, China etc had pretty big ringtone markets with little data to estimate from.
So in the case of Korean artists which aren't as big outside SK as inside it definitely inflates them to some degree. Although Big Bang were huge all over Asia so I'm not sure if it's a good argument against them specifically.
But I can say IU is not on the list due to this reason.

she should have around 20m cspc in singles right, could she reach it in a few years?
Hard to tell, she had like 90m charted Gaon DLs so that's like 14m+ from them alone, not to mention uncharted sales. But we need to subtract a good share of them, but I don't know at what rate.
On the other hand has her Spotify streams tripled since I did her streaming masters article. She's selling way more albums and Chinese DLs these days and is bigger in most East and South East Asian markets now than she's ever been too so she might get there in a few years.
I understand there is a lot of work in each and every cspc and we are all grateful for the work you do. Is there a chance we will get Neil Young this month? When is the current ETA for him?

As Deep Purple were the leaders when Neil Young was published, I've now removed their votes among everyone's votes. I also capped votes from one person to one artist to 25 so that it prevents a single member to make several artists win as he moves his points from one to another.

When I saw Neil Young as the #1 artist to be profiled, my first thought was why ? He has maybe a handful of hits, and none of them were that big. It looks like it took a lot of hard work so ty for all the time you invested. This profile has to be the lowest scoring I’ve seen for an artist with such a long history of unsuccessful albums. The voting system is ridiculous because it favors older subscribers who probably can afford to pay for a premium subscription. When you added this membership pay system, i immediately stopped actively coming to this site because if I am going to pay for a membership it’s going to be one that has been around for at least 10 years. Searching for 3 artist in one day and then u r blocked until the next day, I can’t tell you how cheap and greedy you come off as to me. If you were able to pump out more discographies at a fast pace. Maybe I would pay to view but I’ll just go back to kworb

You sound very frustrated, your feelings are up to you so I'll focus on the concrete points.
Firstly, Neil Young was picked before the voting system, so the two are unrelated. Secondly, Neil Young has been amazingly successful. The success of a project is relative to the investment you make and the expectations, not all artists are making teen pop hoping to get a huge smash hit. The fact that he does what he does for 55 years and is very healthy shows his career is successful. He is one of the 50 best selling singers of all-time, second ever from a country with a roster as extraordinary as the one from Canada.
Thirdly, the voting system favors users that are really interested in building the all-time best sellers list, rather than fans of a current artist who run here from Twitter and will not even know when the article is posted. Our main goal is to get all the biggest sellers done, that's the priority and if votes are in line with this then it's perfect.
Fourthly, if you followed the events our former hosting service blocked us prompting many days of downtime last October because we were too heavy consumers to be part of a shared service. Private servers are 10-ish times more expensive. So I'll just conclude with a question, I (and several others) already dedicate 100% of my free time for over 6 years to this website in order to inform people, why should I on top of this put several thousands of euros per year from my personal money when professionals use the data we publish to make money?

Currently, there are 144 artists analyzed, will it reach more than 300 for example? Or is there already a pre-determined list of all the artists that will be studied?
