A massive blind spot in in sales from what I’va seen that has always interested me is the likes of classic female artists such as Etta James, Brenda Lee, Billie Holliday, Doris Day or even Dianne Warwick that all seem massive in name but their streams are often add odds with their chart positions and there little to no certification for any of them

Hi Kris!

To be as transparent as usual, I've yet to start my part on Genesis. I'm currently working on an extra article, hihglighting a monster case of 'hidden' sales, which is taking longer than expected. It is key to work on it though as it impacts a lot of CSPCs (slightly or more notably, depending on the artist genre) for historical artists. Hopefully pieces of this will come out this week 🙂

I have a request for you. I have a question for you if you are considering there are three ladders? One for male artist, one for female artist and one for the group.
Up to three artists can study this way at the same time, which would mean more chances for many of the studied.
There would certainly be a lot of fans of this site.

Hi Meca76!

To be honest I'm missing the logic there, it's not because we put 3 distinct ladders that we will start working 3 times faster! ^^'

Are Cream and Derek & the Dominos going to be included in Eric Clapton's study?

Can you please add Daft Punk, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nelly Furtado to the list of artists we can vote on? All of them are major artists, each one with a particularly huge album that deserve to be studied! They are also much bigger than several of the artists studied to date including Little Mix, Buffalo Springfield, Macklemore and others. I would also love to see Pussycat Dolls studied (maybe along with Nicole Scherzinger solo career) since there are many debates about whether they were bigger than other girl groups in the last few decades.

To add to this, it would also be great to see Kesha studied. She is the last of the major divas of the 2010s that was never studied.

Chartmasters set a clear criteria for making the list:

"How do we define these artists? We have set these limits of expected results:

  • over 50 million CSPC sales
  • over 30 million CSPC sales for a local artist
  • over 15 million CSPC sales with a single album"

If they start adding artists that don't quite meet the criteria like the ones you suggested, they would end up adding dozens if not hundreds more artists to the list.

I believe Radiohead, Daft Punk and blink.182 deserve to be an option here. Yes, they don't fit Chartmasters' criteria and I know there should be limits to avoid an infinite amount of requests, but they're the only acts that are on the top 200 most listened artist on Spotify and started making music in the XX century, that haven't been studied or aren't available on this page. The fact that they've managed to mantain their popularity from the 90's to this day should be an indicator of strong numbers. They were popular during the last years of album sales, then the era of downloads and now are pulling big numbers on streaming. They would definitely win the poll one after the other.

It's just an idea.

System Of A Down also started making music in the 20th century.

I don't think it's a good idea though, for example The Notorious B.I.G.'s streams are much more impressive than Daft Punk's, they are similar (around 5 billion) but he only made two albums in the mid-90s while Daft Punk had a huge album in 2013 (2.5b streams).

Hi Tom!

Genesis numbers are done, the article is being written right now. Post Malone will be updated this week, and both Rihanna and Eminem will have their articles moved to the new formula (without updating the numbers) so that features do not keep their total inflated.

Hi everyone!

Now that Genesis are published, here is the screenshot of the leaderboard at this moment, showing Eric Clapton on top! He will be the next artist studied 🙂

I'll remove votes for him for the next round, do not forget to fulfil yours!
