In my humble opinion, this paragraph is no longer relevant: “Ed Sheeran reigns supreme with a pair of songs from Divide, owning the most streamed song on Spotify with Shape of You while Perfect closes an all-2017 podium.” because the weeknd Dominique greatly this chart with 5 songs, including 4 in the top 15, 3 in the top 10 and 2 in the top 5. An update of the page would be nice to see, thank you. But also, like the song "despasito", "save your tears" from the weekend has greatly exceeded billions of streams, for both versions.
Crazy how Blinding Lights still ain't surpassed Shape of You. Ed Sheeran is the greatest, in fact.
Cruel Summer is missing from the list. The main version alone would place it at 45th.
Numb by Linkin Park is currently listed at #21 with almost 3.2B streams, that include 1.1B streams by the Numb/Encore mash-up with Jay-Z.
My question is, should mash-ups count towards the total of both original songs?
I also wonder if orphans and features are automatically included in these totals? Quite often these are covers or karaoke versions not by the original artists, admittedly usually quite small versions.
@thomas-christiansen if you don't mind I'm putting here your list of most streamed legacy songs so that people can comment!

(23 AC/DC – Thunderstruck – 373M)
A lot of big ones this year! In 2023 only 4 tracks (by Tears for Fears, Radiohead, A-ha and Police) were over 400M. In 2024 that number is 16!
5 huge ones are above 500M in 2024, in 2023 Tears for Fears was #1 with ‘just’ 476M.
Biggest of all in 2024 was the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” with 632M, thanks to the Deadpool movie.
It thus skyrockets from #20 to #9 on the all time chart!
Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” lost the battle for second spot to both A-ha and the Police, dropping #2-4. Queen’s “Another One” (#9-11), “Under Pressure” (#17-24) and “WWRY” (#38-41) also drops.
Bo Rhap is still #1 of course, but maybe not forever! It still leads #2 by 400M, but in 2024 it ‘only’ did 336M – not even in the top 30 of the year. That’s about 200M less than A-ha and almost 250M less than the Police!
The Eagles “Hotel California” makes a big drop from #11-17 due to ‘just’ 320M in 2024.
Winners include CCR. Their two songs climb #27-21 and #43-32 respectively. AC/DC’s “YSMANL” climbs 59-47 (HTH tops BIB for AC/DC #1), Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls” climb 62-52 and with 342M in 2024 Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” enter the list at #59.
& thanks for the list Thomas! It's crazy to see that these songs still added 25% ish of their release to date total, now that streams have been significant for a decade. It also looks like the ranking is 'normalizing' itself, overly present artists are slowing down, while songs that weren't obvious go-by tracks on playlists at first (say Backstreet Boys' song) have climbed up once they proved their strenght through the years.
Also kinda amusing to see Christmas songs going down. At every Christmas season they feel bigger and bigger, but this list gives a more accurate view of the situation, and in fact remaining songs increased more in 2024!
Numb by Linkin Park is currently listed at #21 with almost 3.2B streams, that include 1.1B streams by the Numb/Encore mash-up with Jay-Z.
My question is, should mash-ups count towards the total of both original songs?I also wonder if orphans and features are automatically included in these totals? Quite often these are covers or karaoke versions not by the original artists, admittedly usually quite small versions.
We include songs credited to the artist by Spotify, it does happen that some orcherstra versions or so do not include the original artist, but these usually have very tiny streams, in the thousands.
To be honest we do not have a clear mind on Numb, it's such a tricky case. It's the same for Al If I remember well. If you ask me if they should be merged, I may say yes in a day and no the following one! 🤔

Of course, thanks!

It seem a bit up and down for the Xmas songs. Last Xmas (pun intended ) they seemed to go up the ranks, this year they go down. In 2023 three Xmas songs were in the year-end top 13 (Mariah, Brenda & WHAM). In 2024 none of them were in the year-end top 13. Mariah was #14, but that might actually be helped by this "missing" version:
https://open.spotify.com/track/0nKHvC7G3rOawBNOzFM0lu
I'm not sure I included that 27M version before - it's not in the streaming tool database. Without it she would be at 382M in 2024, like WHAM at #20.

I exclude mash-ups and medleys in my lists. Mash-Ups like Numb/Encore & Nothing Else Matter/F*CKING SOCIETY. Medleys like Bohemain Rhapsody/Radio Gaga & Here Comes the Sun/Inner Light.
I try to determine if orphans are legit or not. Like Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine" has a 2.84M version that is not (David Garrett cover)
Same with features. I've excluded Megan thee Stallion's version of We Will Rock You. She samples it, and they get a credit. Eminem samples Dream On in Sing for the Moment, but Aerosmith doesn't get a credit. But it's a bit of a jungle.
If I'm unable to determine if a version is legit, I exclude it.

The Beatles no longer have the biggest song of the 60s. "Here Comes the Sun" is overtaken by both Creedence's "Fortunate Son" and Marvin Gaye's "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough". Furthermore, their "Come Together" is down #13-15 and "Hey Jude" is #18-20. The good news is "Yesterday" had a healthy 24 months and closes in on the top 20 (#24-21).
Two years ago Burl Ives' Xmas song was a new entry at #5. Turns out that was a glitch in the database.
This year Otis Redding has a new entry at #14 with "Sitting On the Dock of the Bay".

Queen still hold the top two songs of the 70s. But WWRY drops 2 spots (#8-10) and Somebody To Love is out.
Two years ago Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" entered at #9. That was due to a glitch in the database. This year Black Sabbath, Kiss and Bill Withers have new entries. Marley’s "Three Little Birds" re-enter (#22-19).

The top 5 is upside down! Journey has been 80s #1 for ages, but A-Ha and the Police have sky-rocketed these past two years.
Tears for Fears shoots up #13-8! All three Queen songs drop. Break Free is out.
So does AC/DC's BIB (#9-12), but YSMANL from the same album enters at #16 (#22-16).
Another new entry comes from Cyndi Lauper with "Girls" at #18. And watch out for Elton! "I'm Still Standing" has done very well lately.

Welcome to the 00s. Welcome to the Coldplay & Eminem Show, with Linkin Park as special guests! The Killers reign of the 00s was shortlived as Coldplay soars to #1 and #2 with "Yellow" and "La Vida"!! Coldplay have a total of 4 songs in the top 20 (although the other two both drop)
Eminem has FIVE! songs in the top 13, and soon all five is above the 2B mark. Incredible! Both Linkin Park songs climb and are now in the top 10. And that's without the "Numb/Encore" mash-up.
Strong new entries by Arctic Monkeys and Keane. Rihanna's "Umbrella" at #18 was bubling under the last time. Train, Kanye and BOTH Beyonce songs are out of the top 20. Former #1 "I'm Yours" continue to drop (#3-9).

Welcome to the 00s. Welcome to the Coldplay & Eminem Show, with Linkin Park as special guests! They occupy the top 6, and only Killers and Shakira sneak into the top 10 of the past 24 months. I don't have the figures from Arctic Monkeys and Keane, but could they be in or close to the top 10.
And "Yellow" now tops "Bohemian Rhapsody". Released in June 2000 you could fairly say it's the biggest legacy song in Spotify history...
Here are the top ten songs from the 50s on Spotify.
