N95, another song by Kendrick Lamar, is expected to be over 500M when Spotify updates stream counts later today 🙂

Okay I have a question. For context, I'm currently working on a project analyzing the most streamed songs of the 2010s. Now, I know that not every year is equal in terms of streams; Spotify didn't even exist in 2010 and experienced growth throughout the decade. However, I noticed that streams seemed to peak in 2017, with a downward trend thereafter. That's also consistent with Billboard's weekly Hot 100 points, and with YouTube's music video views as well.
My question is: do y'all have any insights into what factor(s) led to 2017 posting such stronger numbers than the rest of the decade? This may be coincidence, but I've also noticed that in most decades, the 7th year always seems to produce some of the strongest streaming numbers (it's happened in every decade since the 60s except the 2000s, when 2008 actually wound up being that year).
few corrections:
"IGDAF" and "Rich Baby Daddy" by Drake are both on the same album(For All The Dogs), but have two different covers.
"Come As You Are", "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Lithium", and "Something In The Way" by Nirvana have two different covers, despite being on the same album(Nevermind)
from what ive seen it just has to do with the music industry firing on all cylinders on 2017. nearly every major artist had a popular release that year
@mriv13 I think it's a combination of a lot of things. But mainly it probably hits a sweet spot of being a year when the platform was already very big but still so long ago that tracks have gotten a lot of time to accumulate streams. This spot will probably move in the future though. As Nova mentioned is it also of good help that some huge smashes came out like Ed Sheeran's Divide most notably.
Some Coldplay songs (Yellow, Viva La Vida) are missing, they were previously on the list
Wasn't trying to spam there, sorry, my comment wasn't showing up and I thought it must've failed to send
ti see. does it have to do with spotify's shenanigans with hiding versions of nevermind? thanks for fixing the drake tracks.
