what happened? how did taylor lose nearly 2 billion streams? how is justin and ed back up in the top 5... there needs to be some fixes
that's like... 600 million streams over 3 days, which would be over 200 million streams a day, if that actually happened, demi would beat taylor for most streamed gained in a day lol
Hi Mike!
We are currently setting up an improved version of the streaming tool which will reduce a lot the ups and downs that we see frequently. In a pair of days everything should be properly adjusted to reflect the real and comprehensive totals. Demi's jump for example is legitimate, she had 'lost' these 600m at new year because of an ID moving to unavailable status. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime!
Don't believe what you're selling anymore. How can a artists lose1.4 streams over the last several updates and others remain unaffected under these new parameters. And if it is legit and your numbers have been this off all along why are they to be believed this time ?
Based on my observations looks like Presley has lost 1.5 billion streams in the last few updates ? 700 million in the last update ?
Hi Todd!
The fact that Elvis went down 600m actually highlights very well my previous comments.
A small check at his page 'Artist History' to see his previously saved totals:
- 10/01/22 - 5,593,513,949
- 10/05/22 - 6,155,499,351
So a 600m jump in 4 days. Basically, Can't Help Falling In Love got saved twice. As I explained various times, Spotify's own database takes about 1 hour to update, and during this time tracks may be duplicated because some albums already have updated streams while others still show the previous day's value. That's why his numbers got saved so few times in recent months, because the only time frame that were showing stream increases were precisely during the update time due to the duplicates.
There are algorithms in place to prevent these cases, but there are just too much data to manually verify it all, and Spotify's data is tricky enough to make this fairly complex to avoid at 100%.
The new version that I'll explain in a dedicated article soon aims to address this situation (among others), and we are starting to see these fixes from the new system identifying them.
Hi Tommy!
Nope, the statistics about the number of songs are all about the lead tracks only.
Would love to see chartmasters tackle the incredibly huge catalog of Bing Crosby. Being that he was without a doubt the top singer in the early part of the 20th century up until about 1950 but continued to have success into the 1970s. Not to mention the incredible amount of Christmas music he has sold over the decades. He had 41 number one songs alone in his day. Not to mention the top 10s and the top 40.
Chopin's data hasn't been updated for 559 days. I would love to see an update. Thank you.
Metallica overtake GNR and U2. Next targets are Michael Jackson and RHCP
