It's the whole interest of this Top 1000, every time a user searches for an artist, if he registered enough streams he is added to the list / his streams are updated. When you looked for these artists, you effectively added them to the ranking!
Why are the results of the Spotify tool sometimes in Japanese?
Like when I do a search for Pretty Maids, one album (Kingmaker) is in Japanese.
Lots of albums got Japanese deluxe versions and such and some are titled in Japanese. these sometimes get "prioritised" first by the tool it seems. It shouldn't mess up the numbers though.

I also searched for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros last week and they weren't added. I wonder if it was because the threshold increased but I searched again just now and they still seem to be above the current threshold (they have over 700 million at the moment) so there's probably an error in the system.

Actually, the script purposedly avoid saving some results. The thing is that around 2 to 3 pm (in general, this can vary) GMT, when Spotify does its update, hit tracks available through multiple compilations can appear with their streams of the day before and the new day, duplicating a good part of the artist result.
To prevent saving results flawed by these duplications, I developed a script that analyze the data, compare it to the historical data of the artist, and if it appears to be dubious, sets an overall variable at "unstable" that blocks new saves for 1 hour. Then it keeps testing the new results, and when they appear to be stable again, they are saved anew. Thus, if you perform a result during this timeframe the system won't save it.
You likely searched back Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros at another time as I can now see them appear in the overall list!
Huge chunk of Christina Aguilera's songs and streams are missing. With all the songs, she's at 3,773,840,824 streams.
I think it's safe to say that any act with over 10 billion is one of today's superstars.
Hi MJD, apparently Rick Wakeman's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth has sold 14 million copies, The Myths and Legends of King Arthur has sold 12 million and The Six Wives of Henry VIII has sold 15 million copies, according to various sources across the internet. This feels like an exaggeration, or are these just under certified? Could you take a guess at their actual sales? And are these albums planned on being studied in the future?

Hi Joanna! Our optimization process excludes records that bring no new streams, so if an artist is scanned when a new song has 0 stream and there are already another 0 streams song in their catalog, the release is moved to the exclusion list. I removed these two songs from these exclusions 🙂
Hello, the counter is missing 4 out 5 of Little Mix's albums and a bunch of extra tracks... Is it a problem of your server?
Dua Lipa is missing from the list of highest gainers, while she's mentioned twice in the most followed list. She is, however, present on the most streamed artists list and the Spotify history data, so do you know what's wrong there? (Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question, the databases don't have a comment section)

A script wrongly created her a second time in our artist database (likely a connection issue when the query was sent to get her entry), which caused both errors you mention. It's now fixed!
