Great article MJD and Chartmasters team!
It does feel a bit odd though that "King of Pain" (the second strongest song from Synchronicity) ends up with a lower EAS total than "Spirits in the Material World" (the second strongest song from Ghost in the Machine) even though its streaming performance is twice as strong.
Hi MJD,
If I add the sum of the European states analyzed (UK to Finland) between Police and Metallica, the European total of Metallica is too high of about 1,300,000 copies, is this because they sell more in secondary markets such as the Polish, Russian or Belgian ones ?
Hi Jsak!
Without going into details for these 2 artists, yes, we adapt the formula for the rest of Europe with the success of each artist. For example, if you look at Sting's most recent studio albums, the European total will seem very high, but that's because they are heavy sellers in Poland. This country, along with USSR/Russia, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Portugal and Greece are analyzed (they all used to produce albums locally, so have their individual versions available on Discogs) to know the success of an artist in them. Success in Eastern Europe especially can vary a lot in comparison to the rest of Europe.
,the numbers over here are not true , the police sold much more in hard copys , for exemple , every breath you take sold around 30 million in hard copies , the second album sold more then 3 millon only in uk , and more ...
Well the original comment had nothing to do with Queen. Clearly Chika has a massive chip on her shoulders.
The Police’s Billboard 200 entries, ranked by weeks in top 10 ( April 2 , 2024 ) :
1. 40, Synchronicity
2. 24, Ghost In The Machine
3. 21, Zenyatta Mondatta
4. 4, Every Breath You Take-The Singles
Total: 89 weeks .
Where are you getting these statistics from? I can't find it anywhere on the internet (unlike the UK official charts, the Billboard doesn't mention how many weeks spent inside the top 10).
Partly there :

And there :

Agree ! I'm also would like if Billboard mention how many weeks spent inside the top 10 .
