Sure, but obviously we're not talking about Adele's or Billie's most successful albums here, Billie's debut album has around 11 billion streams outside of the US, while Midnights has 5b right now. Olivia Rodrigo's Sour is also over 11b.
In any case, a "local" artist would be someone like Drake who has like 80% of his streams in the US, Taylor is obviously not in that category.
Which means Midnights will almost certainly surpass or at the very least match those 11 billion streams by the time it's four years old
These comparisons can be tricky though because streaming is such an ever growing market, for example Spotify is now twice bigger than it was 4 years ago, and it's not that big in the booming Asian market... We can try to guess how many streams Billie's debut would have if it was released now, but if the question is "who's more global" or "who's local" I think it's simpler to look at the percentages I mentioned above.
Right. It’s definitely tricky. Although it’s quite telling that Billie’s catalog streams haven’t increase, as Spotify grows, like it has happened with Taylor’s catalog. Or how Thank, U Next, released before Positions, debuted with far more streams. Their is definitely a ceiling for success, even with Spotify growing. Anyways, Taylor's catalog on average generates 70% of streams from abroad. So I guess it's simpler to just focus on that.
Also, important to note that ""Spotify is the top music streaming service in APAC, with 48% of consumers using the platform monthly"
It's certainly wrong to say it's not big in the booming Asian market. Unless you mean China?
If you're referring to this article, it says 48% outside of China. I didn't say it's not big in Asia, it's just far from being the dominant platform, it has way less users worldwide than Tencent has in China for example.
"Anyways, Taylor’s catalog on average generates 70% of streams from abroad."
Maybe on Spotify, but more like 60% overall.
"Maybe on Spotify, but more like 60% overall" based on what? Estimates from Apple Music? Because the average between Spotify and Youtube, the two streaming services which reveal numbers, is 75% (80% from Youtube, using the US share numbers you posted and 70% from Global Spotify, using the Global charts numbers from above)
You also said, and I quote "it’s not that big in the booming Asian market" so yes, you did claim it wasn't big in Asia. 48% of music streaming subscribers use Spotify outside of China which is massive with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Spotify is also catching up to JOOX/Zing MP3 in the two markets where they don't lead (Thailand and Vietnam). Tencent Music and China is a whole other discussion considering Spotify does't operate directly in the country. Thankfully, Taylor is the second most followed international act on QQ music after BIGBANG and does great on other local services. So it seems she has the market well covered as well. To quote this article, "In China, most of her hits from albums which weren’t available for sale at first record more streams than they do on Spotify". That is massive and unprecedented for an international act.
Official confirmation that Speak Now TV will be released on July 7 so expecting another career booster for Taylor. It's 100% guaranteed that she will surpass Babra and Whitney by end of 2023. And it will take another two year max for her to surpass Mariah too. At this rate, Taylor is definitely a threat to Madonna and this is not a delusional think anymore.
Charting at #26 on the Billboard Global Excl. US Chart with Anti Hero is not the definition of flopping. Especially not when Anti Hero is at that stage when most other songs like it are nearly out of the top 40.
It is impressive that she will have yet another huge season of breaking records with just a rerecording of a 13 year old album. This already happened with Red TV.
I just realized you combined her re-recordings with her originals. I'm sorry but you need to separate them. They're literally two separated albums with different rollouts and different credits. This is kinda cheating and fraudulent and takes away all the authenticity of your website. Disappointed. I hope you make some efforts to separate them.
Ummm, no. The re-recordings are essentially reissues/compilations of the original albums with a few added songs. This is common practice as reissues often include new content. ChartMasters uses the same rules and parameters for everyone. Hence, if these were counted separately, it would impact a large number of artists. For example, they would have to separate Lady Gaga's The Fame and The Fame Monster, as well as Katy Perry's Teenage Dream and The Complete Confection. Either way, it's still the same number of units, the total sum doesn't change.
