I don't really find any compelling reason to conflate the sales and streams of re-recordings and original versions when all other official chart sources treat them as separate albums. It's probably best to respect the prevailing industry rules on this matter. As it stands, it only inflates the sales of individual albums and this is misleading at best. Also, this runs counter to the rationale behind the re-recordings, which is to separate them from the stolen versions. Have some respect on the artist's wishes.
the only reason these versions aren't combined by Billboard is because they're owned by two different record labels and Billboard charts are ultimately made for labels to track the success of their releases
the point of the re-recordings is to REPLACE the original versions. if you noticed the daily streams of Fearless and Red halved after the release of Taylor's Version. which means half of the audience of these albums treat Taylor's Version as the actual original album, and that is ultimately the intention behind it
+ the point of CSPC analysis is to showcase the popularity of songs and albums. Love Story (Taylor's Version) is essentially the same song as Love Story (2008) with the same lyrics, instrumental and arrangement. if you're a casual listener you wouldn't even notice a difference.the release of TV didn't inflate the success of these songs, it blew a new fresh air of life to them. sort of like when artists re-promote old hits on the radio or in movies but in a new unusual way.
and for example also, Love Story (2008) was gaining around 600,000 daily streams in late 2020. sure the release of TV boosted its streams greatly for a few months, but lately once that effect subsided the song (2008 + TV) is pulling 650,000 streams daily, equally divided between the two versions.
Most charts don't consider it as the "same" album. Germany is obviously the outlier in this case. You are basing your decision on the exception and not the rule. Lives, remixes, and compilations are the direct offshoot of the studio album, while Taylor's re-recordings have a different genesis, which is to reclaim her discography. Taylor was very explicit about this.
That doesn't really justify the conflation and merely provides undue advantage to those albums performance-wise. You can still treat them as separate albums and be able to measure the popularity as separate entities or combined as an added analysis. There is no reason why you can't list the albums separately to show how the re-recordings fare and then add a section where all these are combined. This is the most fair course of action there is.
Re-issues, live albums, remix albums, etc... are combined for everyone, it would be unfair to have them separated for just Taylor. I think you're bothered by the success of the re-recordings, so drop the nice guy act and move along.
If the sales of the fame monster count under the fame, and paradise under born to die idk why Red TV shouldn't count under Red...
That’s because paradise and tfm were packaged as one album, not released separately like Red and Red Tv.
It’d be cool if you did some new artists like Sia, Kesha, David Guetta or Nicki Minaj. They were huge in the 10s, especially pure sales 😄
and what makes you think they won't be in 20-30 years if she gets her masters
Taylor really surprise me. 4-5 years ago I really thought Adele and Rihanna would beat her tally. But her consistency is so underrated. And she is about to have 3 20 million+ albums and 7 10 million+ albums. Not to mention it seems like Folklore also might have a chance to get to 10 million. Truly a legend
Mariah Carey have 7 10+ million albums , Madonna - 9 10+ million . Who think she can't beat them ? Beatles have 12 albums 10+ million . If i am right it is historical record .
