I think you are confusing sales with CSPC. Swift has 5 10m albums on CSPC, not 5 10m selling albums. Madonna though has 9 above 10m CSPC.
That's not strictly true, she used to be but her sales have dropped dramatically since 1989.
Swifts last four albums studied SOLD/(CSPC)
Reputation 3.4m (8.1m)
Lover 1.9m (6.6m)
Folklore 1.9m (4.6m)
Evermore 0.64m (2.2m)
Total 7.84m (21.5m)
BTS last four albums studied SOLD/(CSPC)
Love Yourself: Answer 3.1m (6m)
Map of the Soul: Personna 4.3m (9.1m)
Map of the Soul: 7 4.6m (8.1m)
BE 3.7m (7.6m)
Total 15.7m (30.8m)
So as you can see, BTS albums for the most part, are outselling and outperforming on CSPC Taylors.
On CSPC, sure they may come close. But in let's say Actual Sales, Taylor gets the crown. And plus, Reputation did well even after the Taylor is a snake hate train and the Kimye scandal. It's kinda unfair to put Tay's last albums and not the entire album set itself. Her country albums alone are already bigger than the standards of most pop artists. And also, CSPC wise, Taylor is still above however she is on a fine line from losing to BTS. I'm saying this as a life long Swiftie and a K-pop Addict.
Yes, but aren't CSPC supposed to equate to equivalent albums sales? So technically this is a method that accounts both physical(studio albums) and digital(streams/downloads) sales to better reflect their numbers in the digital era. Basically taylor swift have 5 albums that sold more than 10M per the method chartmaster's employed to determine equivalent album sales.
BTS are no joke when it comes to sales / CSPC however I'm a little skeptical about if it's gonna last or not, cause outside of Asia there isnt much GP interest in them it's purely just their fandom mass purchasing their releases (Butter for example is the epitome of a manufactured hit)
At this rate, BTS might be able to surpass her in 4-5 years however it would also depend on how Taylor Swift will perform in sales in the succeeding years. Her album sales have been waning since 1989 but as everyone has been saying, no one can predict the future. Taylor Swift can still pull big album releases as massive as that of 1989's which is currently her career's best.
True. It really depends on how Taylor will perform in the next upcoming years. Right now, her sales are still going really strong. Especially for 1989 being her weekly paycheck.
I wasn't trying to say they have sold more albums overall, I was just trying to show that more recently their albums have outsold and outperformed her albums overall.
Yes but those albums didn't actually sell 10m+, they have 10m+ EAS. Sold relates specifically to digital or physical sales of a studio album, not how many EAS a studio album has. I think it's just a case of people needing to be more specific with their wording.
I totally understand. Although, in these times, when people talk about "sold units" they're more likely referring to "sps/sales plus streaming" units
Again, it's about being clearer, something that this industry has never been good at. Sold units still means sold, IMO the word sold needs to be removed as it is obviously not the correct word, it should be units consumed or something.
I'm kind of confused, i'm on the QQMusic app but i don't understand how to know if a song is available for audio streaming or not. Look What You Made Me Do has more views than Blank Space yet it has more streams here because it was multiplied for 50 and LWYMMD for 5.
That's very reasonable. But I'd say it's kinda weird to put Taylor's recent albums where she has went past her prime years ago. While BTS' recent albums are basically their career's climax. Taylor's climax was in between Fearless to 1989 era which were albums not included in your list
lol are u kidding me? The Beatles has claimed over 600 million sales and with streaming their sales will only increase lol BTS can't even sell 50 million lol
