Thanks! Continuing growth might change these all-time best sellers lists fundamentally over the next few decades.
i have two questions
did welcome to new york actually do 500m streams on china or is that a typo? because for a album track thats mindblowing
and do you think with the rerecordings she might surpass 120m sales by the end of next year?
nice! never realized that you belong with me sold less than love story though..
also, can you do blackpink next? quick tip: melon (korea's biggest streaming platform) now releases data like streaming count and unique listeners, you might check that out. the thing with gaon is, they filter out like almost 45% of a song's stream count bcs of fandom mass streaming. ddu-du ddu-du shouldve been 3x plat for streaming, 4x even bcs it alreadu has 220m on melon and further 80m in genie
Hi Ludaluda!
The thing, it's not Gaon which filters too much, it's Melon who doesn't do it enough. Their numbers, especially for older songs, include tons of bot-generated plays.
What about Twice on the Korean and Japanese charts? Can you fo a chart for those? Thanks.
BTS being able to beat The Beatles is something that can't physically happen. BTS' best selling album is only a little close to 10m where as 10m sales doesn't seem like a problem at all for a group like The Beatles
Although the East is pretty intense with Music right now, the West has always focused on an artist's sales. Take a look at Japan. The main K-pop act in Japan right now is TWICE. They have sold alot there but let's take a look at maybe the U.S where a somewhat equivalent for TWICE in Japan is Taylor Swift in the U.S. Taylor obviously has sold many there but since her equivalent in Japan is TWICE, and seeing how TWICE has moderate sales compared to Taylor, it's easy to say the fight of music in the West is more intense right now.
I have no Idea why people think Taylor is a flop in other places when it's the opposite. These Americans who think that their "research" is enough to say that Taylor is a flop without even knowing Taylor's actual status in places like Oceania or Asia. Asians love Taylor. They aren't big album comtributors but they are big streaming contributors. And sales don't always determine one's popularity because most album sales come from the actual pure album sales themselves and not always about streaming.
Did anyone ever say that Taylor was better than Adele? Why do some Adele fans hold a grudge to Taylor? Because she is similar to Adele in charts and album sales? Are they thinking that Taylor might dethrone Adele?
Hi Drewwwwww!
While I don't think BTS will catch the Beatles for various reasons, it must be noted that by Oct 1972 their top sellers were Abbey Road at 7.2 million followed by Sgt Pepper at 6.3 million. Many of their albums did sell 10m copies ultimately, but that took many years!
True actually. But it will take very long for BTS to catch up to them. Sales for The Beatles were a little slow, but it was possible. BTS has the advantage of stan culture, which would boost their popularity by like 100%. Still, The Beatles has been around decades before BTS did and even though they disband, it doesn't really stop album sales. In fact, disbanding could actually boost your sales.
1989's success is insane. I think if Taylor chose the right singles for Lover (maybe Cruel Summer etc.) then it would've been more successful than it is now. Many people overlook the main singles and they leave out the actual side tracks. I've noticed however, that when a Swiftie accidentally stumbles upon Cruel Summer, they fall inlove with it. (I've also noticed that Cruel Summer sounds alot like Stylish by LOOΠΔ). So maybe Cruel Summer should've been a main single too.
