For she is one of the most consumed artists of recent years. MJD has already said that for these current popular artists like BTS and Taylor there would be yearly updates to test the formula.
Unfair to those who are among the best sellers at least in Top 100 best-selling artists all times !
Hi Meca76!
The thing is, she sells in a year more than many artists do in 5 😉
Actually, we drafted a list of update targets for the year, a very ambitious one as it includes about 30 artists, and she is naturally one of them!
Taylor and Drake just had a huge jump. Is this a glitch or a change in the formula?
Hi Stan!
It's not a glitch, we applied to artist totals the new weighting of the streaming platforms! Updates are not complete yet and someone like Drake will drop back once his features are fixed!
Exactly, Drake will drop massively because features make up a lot of his discography which is how it should be.
You are really doing a great work, chartmasters was already a good source to have an overall view of artist career success but the methodology had some weak points and now I think you have corrected very well. Can’t wait to see how Taylor’s, Drake, Rihanna and other artists discographies change
Thank you, I found the article outlining the changes to the formula. Sounds like it will make for some interesting updates to see how it all shakes out.
Why did Fearless and RED sales declined by millions? Is it a glitch or are you updating her already? Thanks!
Why do you remove the re-record album streaming data from fearless and red ? I don't think they should be treated as separate albums , because the original album daily streams will drop after the re-recording come out.
By the way, Taylor's pure sales should be updated
New rules has been put out ? But in the artist page , old formula is still being used...only a few artists (Dua Lipa ,Justin Bieber..) has applied new formula. When will you update Taylor's each album CSPC with the new formula?
MJD :
"This is the current planning as we’ve set it a few weeks back. Obviously, depending on many factors, there can be delays or a change in the sequence, but for now that’s how we are planning it (+Bad Bunny in upcoming days):
13/05 Kendrick Lamar
20/05 Harry Styles
27/05 Dua Lipa
03/06 Post Malone
10/06 BTS
17/06 Adele
24/06 P!nk
01/07 The Weeknd
08/07 Arctic Monkeys
15/07 Billie Eilish
22/07 Imagine Dragons
29/07 Taylor Swift
05/08 Lana Del Rey
12/08 Olivia Rodrigo
19/08 Lil Nas X
26/08 Doja Cat
02/09 Coldplay
09/09 Drake
16/09 Bruno Mars
23/09 Shawn Mendes
30/09 Juice Wrld
07/10 Maroon 5
14/10 Lady Gaga
21/10 Ed Sheeran
28/10 Sam Smith
04/11 Ariana Grande
11/11 Beyonce
So far, we have a dozen of artists that we can update easily thanks to our recent automatization efforts / tools that we use in background. Our target here is to move a dozen more artists among these ‘easy’ ones (like P!nk or Beyonce), so that we can update them more frequently in the future."
Did you already apply the new formula/adjustment to Taylor Swift and The Beatles' CSPC?
And what's the rationale behind the adjustment? 🙂
I think the adjustment only applies on streaming, we will get full update for pure sales in upcoming months maybe as soon as end of July. I predict her stats will surpass 125M, ahead of everyone else that debut this century.
But they're still using the old ratio for Taylor and other artists. Hope they could apply it immediately to everyone.
Also I am curious about the rationale of changing the weight.
From what I noticed, the new ratio for streaming was applied to all artists on the list. I saw Taylor Swift jump up about 8 million or so. There is an article explaining why they changed the formula; it's on the front page somewhere.
The part that hasn't been updated for all artists is the new ratio for featured songs. From now on, artists who are featured on songs will only get a portion of the sales and not the whole amount like before. So if Taylor has a lot of features, her total will drop down a bit when they update her article. For example when they updated Drake's total he lost like 18M sales due to being a featured artist on so many songs.
the new streaming formula is only applied in the All Time Artists ranking page, but not in every artist's article yet.
also Taylor is barely featured in a few songs, i doubt she will lose more than 750k EAS due to the new way of counting features
Her biggest song as a featured artist probably Both of Us, Two Is Better Than One or The Joker and The Queen. The reduction probably not significant judging from the commercial success of those songs.
Taylor feautures are non relevant, the only one which add something is Highway don’t care and not that much. So the effects are going be low
