Leppard I'd say are a Hard Rock/Rock band, not a Metal act.

Crue weren't really a Metal band either, more Hard Rock Glam Rock, although some of their stuff could be classed Metal.

Mötley Crüe are the fathers of glam metal, Def Leppard were part of NWOBHM and were classifiable between pop and hair metal. If these two are not part of metal, in my opinion Evanescence are even less so.

"Glam metal" is a misleading term, it's really just hard rock bands influenced by Van Halen, Kiss and the like, although as Martin said some of Mötley Crüe's stuff, especially their early albums, is quite metal, but it hasn't sold enough to be in the list.

Evanescence's album is definitely alt metal (like Deftones, Tool...etc.).

Misleading? They are so misleading that Dr. Feelgood influenced the sound and production of the black album and it is certainly more metal than Load and Reload but Pyromania is too.

Metallica influenced by Mötley Crüe, really ? 😆 They despised these "glam metal" bands, just because they hired Dr Feelgood's producer doesn't change the fact that these bands made hard rock music influenced by Van Halen...etc.

It's is true that Ulrich was impressed with the sound and production of Dr Feelgood and subsequently got in touch with Bob Rock, to record Metallica and then produce it.

Ulrich loved the sound of Dr. Feelgood, it is a well known thing, as Load and Reload are not metal but influenced in the harmonic solutions, in the melodies, in many arrangements and various aspects of the production (especially the guitars) by Cantrell and associates.

No it's pretty far behind (16.2m vs 17m), Justice must be selling like 100k a year but Fallen is also selling maybe 65k a year.

No it's not a "well known thing" that Load and Reload aren't metal, it's a well known thing that they are a mix of metal and hard rock. Your main argument seems to be that they were influenced by Alice In Chains, does that mean you don't think AIC is a metal band ?

The Seattle sound was an alternative rock that mixed a little bit of everything, difficult to give it a precise label. In Load and Reload I also hear echoes of Nick Cave or Rolling Stones in some parts.
Very difficult for me to give Load and Relod a metal stamp compared to Dr. Feelgood or Pyromania, either they are all or none are.

How far are the positions 5-6-7-8-9 in terms of copies sold and also annual catalog copies?

I'd have to look it up but 5-6-7 are quite far from each other, Load must be close to Limp Bizkit but its catalog sales are obviously not that great...
