Only 3.5k physical copies have been shipped to stores in Brazil according to shipment codes and Mexican certs come mostly from streams these days.

Pure album sales have been falling like crazy in Latin America the last few years so don't expect too big sales there anymore.

nnn.. that's sad.. but they clearly underestimated.. Monsters will surely buy the album and considering SHALLOW Smashed, Platinum for ASIB won't be that hard to sell..

the lost opportunity.. :rip:

What about Born This Way's sales? It seems like a underperformance to me due the marketing level, expectations and Gaga's profile in that time. What do You think, @MJD?

6.72M albums is definitely not an underperformance..
for comparison: TEENAGE DREAM - ~6.9M and LOUD - ~6.5M

Hey! Thank you for this update, I was so waiting for you to update Lady Gaga's sales! But I truly think you underestimated the sales of the ASIB Soundtrack, it really smashed hard in Europe, Oceania and NA. So just under 6m is surprisingly low (I know 6m is amazing but I thought ASIB would be much higher already).

Also wondering, why did Gaga's score drop from 202 to 159 (ASR) when ASIB (Soundtrack) is her most successful album since Born This Way?

Thank you!

So, Shallow has already sold over 7,000,000 copies and in the last update Born This Way sales were over 6,900,000 copies and now is 6,700,000. Also ARTPOP were 2,200,000 and now 2,100,000 copies?

Why is "A Star Is Born" sales included? It's a soundtrack album of a movie.

Same reason Purple Rain is included for Prince and The Bodyguard for Whitney.

They along with Gaga on ASIB are the only reason people bought those soundtracks.

What's the explanation for having taken 20k from ARTPOP singles since the last update which was 18 MONTHS ago, and by the logic this total should increase over time instead of decreasing?! In addition, it's a fact that ASIB has boosted sales of everything in her catalog, including ARTPOP singles. Added to this, DWUW was fueled by controversy earlier this year, which brought this hit back to the top 50 of US iTunes.

And i have another one:

Why do singles like Telephone and Video Phone have higher numbers in Beyoncé's article than here?

Can I have a good answer?! Thanks!

Hello MJD. Great job as usual.

What are your thoughts on the allegations made against you in this thread?

Thank you. Keep it up.

Yeah, Gaga can sold decent number of album sales even with a bomb single.

Hi Marta!

Anthony who handles it is on vacations at the moment so I took over filling in the information to get the ASR. I was myself surprised by the result so we can definitely not rule out that I messed something 😉 I'll ask Anthony to cross-checks once he returns!

Hi kid1111!

Pure sales in Latin America are really in life support phase now. There it is all about streaming already. Joanne for example was #52 of the year sales-wise in 2016 in Mexico, a market more than 5 times smaller than France where the #52 of 2016 barely sold 60k pure units.

The switch became even stronger recently, for example ASIB has shipped 6k CDs in Brazil. You can get AA1000, AB2000 and AD500 codes online which is why Al mentions 3.5k, but I actually searched for more and I can confirm shipments there have been made by batch of 500 up to AH inclusive. On top of these 6k CDs shipped, you can add over a thousand sales of each DLs and LPs, which is why I rounded up to 10k. The fact that the album remains so low in spite of 8 distinct shipments show how dire the market really is now - and Brazil is still 2x bigger than Mexico!

Hi Kant Clark!

Considering it shipped 6.8 million by the end of 2011 and 900,000 units of them got returned, it no doubt underperformed in regards to their initial expectations. It was even likely shipped more at first but copies were sent back before the year end. It's always hard to replicate such a success anyway, plus The Fame era was so extensive that its numbers aren't really comparable. Also, in absolute terms well over 6m to date is still a very solid number.

Hi Pierre!

As I mentioned I surely messed the ASR calculation, that will be verified!

About ASIB, the thing is that streaming adds a lot but through more months than sales, it's not as immediate. Plus, even if Shallow is super successful, in streaming one song only isn't enough to build very big numbers a la Ed Sheeran. The rest of the soundtrack does well for album cuts, but it misses 4/5 strong singles to compete in this segment pure studio albums.

Hi Luke!

Not sure which figures you refer to for Shallow, also for old BTW / Artpop figures. They are both in the rise actually, although locally some adjustements can be down, for example BTW in Brazil due to an old error in their digital certs.

Hi RLAAMJR!

Please, not that dumb Celine-fanatical argument of "if you don't count Titanic for her, you should exclude all soundtracks to all singers" again.

Hi Marta!

We constantly review every figure, the point is not to look at new sales and add to former estimates while in-between new data emerges showing that adjustments are required. Our formulas are more and more complete / complex as time go by, the fact that it brings such tiny changes show that they are now fairly solid. It's always the last values that must be considered.

Then, if the extrapolation formula changes the total of only 1%, considering how much downloads are dead now, catalog sales aren't enough to off set them. For example 1% of Poker Face is 200k, while old songs are happy to sell 1k in a week in the US.

Hi but!

I can't read the content as I'm not an ATRL member. Anyway, that board is a monstrous flow of delusion, it's filled with fanatics who feed themselves with their stannism / hate. They live in a parallel world where 100% of the global population speak, think and breathe depending on who they are rooting for. The simple title "bias exposed" just shows how insanely childish their approach is.

I'm a married man now, way too old for long to care about absurd diva wars. The funny thing when I read these comments is that Britney fans will say I'm her hater because I stan Bey, Bey fans say I deflate her because I stan Britney, Madonna fans say I must be a fan of Mariah since my numbers are so low, Gaga fans that I stan Madonna, etc, etc. The only thing safe with ATRL is that 100% of divas fanbases claim I'm a hater of their fave because I stan her rival. It's simple to understand, they all believe insanely inflated numbers so anything realistic must be "bias" from a "hater". Just goes on to show how pointless all this can get really.

Well this time around, it's Lady Gaga fans accusing you of inflating Britney Spears sales.

The only point worth addressing is why you used the awards listed in Britney's official promo booklets in the recent update as they seem to think they are mere tabloids or teen magazines of no value. I know you challenged the certifications and found them to be legit. Can you explain the process for the doubters?

The rest of the claims are based on their ignorance on how club sales worked and such.

Let's not pretend like you don't have a bias against Queen Nicki though.

She's literally the most requested artist by a large margin and yet you prefer studying forgotten 70s rock bands like Supertramp.
